Introduce yourself to the members: Here you'll find the concept: http://www.whiskybase.com/about

My lines:
My first experience with Scotch whisky was on a holiday in Scotland - Aberdeen. I stayed in a hotel where a tasting was held by Regis Lemaitre (Regis WhiskyMad). The tasting was about whiskies from Michel Couvreur and after the tasting I was hooked on whisky.

After the holiday I started to buy, drink and collect real whiskies. I also started this website. Now this is the biggest whisky database in the world and it is still growing.

Who's next?

Favorite distillery:
This is like asking a music geek to name one favourite musician... there's just too much good stuff & certain periods of some that would be left out, so I'm refusing to have a favourite distillery :D. Although, I have soft spots for early MacDuffs, Redbreast & Lagavulin in general.

Favorite whisky:
Depends on the mood, but I'd quite happily sip my top-3 rated whiskies if I could regularly. So that would be:
Springbank 1966,  Local Barley,  Cask 1966 508
Caperdonich 1972, The Whisky Agency, Private Stock
Longmorn 1949 G&M
But in general, everything with beeswax, earthy/medicinal, coal smoke or exotic fruit notes will easily get me interested.

Whiskybase tasks:
Still exploring what I'm supposed to do as a specialist. My first self-set task is to clean up MacDuff & Glen Deveron as a brand.

Remember - whisky scores and impressions are highly subjective and situational by nature - so don't go and buy whisky according to someone else's taste...

@ whisk-O-thek & Nilles: What does the task 'High Quality Pictures' involves?

@ MadMaster:
I worked as a professional fotografer for a long time, so from the beginning my goal was to send only pictures taken by myself, cut out perfectly, set free on transparent background, nice highlights, sharp and crisp, right size and ratio - just have a look at my pictures wink
but
most important:
the pictures that are uploaded should be made by the members, not stolen from any dealers or distillery homepages.
I knowingly say stolen, because its no porblem to use the pictures if the owner is asked!!

I think a lot of distilleries would be happy to help with their official packshots, but there must be a permission to use them here.
so the task is to get more and more member pictures to be used here, without loosing the quality on one hand -
on the other I will send out emails to the distilleries I am the specialist for, and ask them to help us with pictures.
we may need a field that says "with kind permission of..."
instead of the mouse-over that we have now, which says: "Photo from member xyz"
I have to talk with my lawyer about the international copyright rules, and how to handle that legally correct.

I will keep you uptodate (and the GROUP)

skol,
Gunnar

I forgot one question,
and it might be the wrong thread -
but:
wouldnt it be nice to have a place to show a bigger picture of each ones "real" collection?
may be in the profile site "about", right below the "about me" words ???
will speak more than 1000 notes wink

and big enough to get it up to full screen witha mouse click,
so everybody who is interested can have a closer look how the presentation is made etc ???
I personally would love it...

Yea, I was wondering about that as well. Even with the zoom pop-up, some parts of the label can be impossible to read still with the 800x*** resolution, so I found myself looking for label pictures elsewhere to confirm some details.

Gunnar,

Thanks for the info, I was just curious...

While I visited many distilleries in Scotland, USA and Japan I've got plenty of self made pictures of those distilleries, copyright free. If you're in search of some, let me know...

Other question: Who can upload/change those Brands/Distilleries/Bottlers pictures here at the Whiskybase? That Linkwood logo at the Linkwood Brand-page looks horrible... wink

That's a good point, Tom, I can edit brand info, photos and such but not the distillery info. Bug?

I started to drink and collect whisky some years ago. I focussed on Kilchoman as you can see on my website: www.kilchoman-collector.de but I like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Port Charlotte as well. I also collect everything that belongs to Cardhu and Glen Scotia.

Thats why I can be here a Specialist for Kilchoman. I am 34 years old, Dipl.Ing., married with one son.

You can always ask me anything.

See you on Islay every year for Feis Ile and Jazz Festival!

PS: I am looking for the Laphroaig Specialist

I started to drink Whisky like five years ago. My favorits back then were Lagavulin and Talisker. Then, when became 30 years old, my friends gave me a Bottle of 30yo Talisker as a present. I was amazed by this Whisky and so I began to to dig more in to the mather and dicovered the Wold of Single Casks.

Today I can say l like different kinds of Whiskys. Peated, heavily sherried and fruity are the three types I like the Most.

Favorit Deistilleries: Glendronach, Littlemill, Laphroaig, Bowmore, Lagavulin, Brora, Clynelish, but there are lots of Distilleries out there which make great Whiskys

I was drawn into the wonderful world of whisky by a member of the shanty choir that I sang in. He had worked in the offshore industry all over the world and started picking up whisky from taxfree shops as early as the sixties. They where like from heaven.

My favorite is Macallan but I tend to love Glendronach allmost equal.

Now the base honored me with the Macallan Specialism.

And now it's my time to introduce myself. happy

About: Since I was little I was already interested in whisky. I think it was because all the bad guys drank whisky in the Hollywood movies. My real first whisky experience was with a miniature from Chivas Regal 12. And it was bad!

After this bad start I tried a Glenlivet 12 and the world changed for me, I tasted flowers, honey and vanilla. Wow!!
Since then I spend most of my spare time in searching for whisky and everything related to it.

Whisky in not a life style but it's more than an hobby for me.

Favorite distillery: I have a weakness for Laphroaig

Favorite whisky: It depends on my mood but I a Laphroaig CS #003 always makes me smile again
