Can't say I'm convinced. From a soft distillate and a port cask, one could expect a really sexy, fruity, almost cloying dram. It's far from being the case in my opinion : this is quite acrid and incoherent, and as much as it surprises me to say so, I wish the cask influence was actually bigger. The finish is nice though.
    • Nose
      76 76
Rosé wine but soon afterwards a totally wtf and persistant smell of boiled cod fish, with the traditional bayleaf. Wasn't expecting that ... Quite acrid with an ungarnished bagel, some panettone, some unsweet cranberries maybe ? Almost fermentary at times. Well, not my type of nose. Was expecting something much sweeter and fruitier.
    • Taste
      79 79
Texture is medium, alcohol could be better integrated. Panettone and plain white bread afterwards, morphing into dashes of grape juice, which I find welcome.
    • Finish
      83 83
Might be the best part, it's much more wine-y than the rest, with black wine gums, quite a bit of sweetness (I won't complain at that point), and a decent length to boot. Feels like the logical ending of what that dram *should* have been on the nose & palate, theoretically.

The port maturation adds a whole new dimension to the 10yo original. Easily quaffable and balanced nicely. My only gripe is the rather thin mouth feel after a while. Quite odd, as the initial arrival was strong and characterful.
    • Nose
Bright red berries and fruit – currant and tart oranges, as well as limes. Associations of naphthalene or moth balls? Effervescent and quickly dissipating. With some air this turns into orange liqueur mixed with hot saw dust.
    • Taste
It arrives slowly but surely builds into a massive blast of caramel and oak. Quite honeyed and a touch of vanilla is present as well. Faint aromas of clay, but definitely rhubarb syrup. Overall, it becomes a little thin in the end with hardly any sweetness left that featured prominently on the nose.
    • Finish
Medium-short. Faint chamomile tea and toffee.

  6. Lorion scored this whisky 72 points Expert Senior

    Delicious. 72nd
    • Nose
Spicy-fruity port nose! Very interesting. Fruity, sweet and spicy. Without one covering the other.
    • Taste
Full. Spicy than expected. Also fruity, but not very sweet.
    • Finish
      Medium to long. Spicy.

  7. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Wow, positively surprised. If it had only one age and 8 or 10 years ... I would have a home. Delicious thing to discover but not overwhelming, the 46% instead of 40 or 43 also do very well.
    • Nose
Dried fruits, raisins, honey, creme brulee, some mint, curry and of course a little port behind
    • Taste
Erstma a little bit spicy for 46%, finest white pepper, but behind it already the sweet Portnote, keeps on coming out, nice red berries, spicy oak, a little chili and nutmeg, dark chocolate, but all with a certain ease due to the 46% , very drinkable
    • Finish
Red apples, red berries still on the bushes, the pepper and nutmeg again, medium long, beautiful

  8. Matt80 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Raisins, dried fruit, herbal, a little menthol, fresh mint, grassy, some burnt sugar, curry powder.

With water - a rum-like note pervades, milk chocolate, cream.
    • Taste
Quite spicy initially, white pepper, a definite sweet port influence, oak.

With water - milk chocolate, a touch of paprika.
    • Finish
Quite long, fruit juice, creme brulee.

      With water - spice dominates.

    initially very spicy, benefits greatly
from oxygenation, the spiciness dissipates into chocolate
    • Nose
      red
      wood, red fruits aroma, glenmorangie
      butter honey underneath
    • Taste
woodsy spicy, woodsy toffee, heavy fruits, butter,
      bitter chocolate
    • Finish
dry and spicy, bread and butter and hints of coffee at
      the back

  11. Wolliwonker scored this whisky 82 points Newbie

A really nice and dark Whisky that is pretty well balanced. It's easy enough to drink to enjoy it without thinking of it, but complex enough to be interesting if you concentrate on it. I like it.
    • Nose
Rather wine then port with strong notes of oak and coffee with some milk chocolate and hints of vanilla. At some point I thought of almost mellow blackerries. Strong notes of grapefruit. A pretty dark and heavy whisky.
    • Taste
Strong arrival with berrylike fruityness with hints of plums spreading from the tip of your tongue. The alcohol tingles your tongue while the whisky rolls down on it like chocolate turning darker and darker.
    • Finish
This nice taste of dark chocolate stays with some hints of peaches, but this is not the spectacular part of this Whisky.

  16. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

I like it, as the port influences are not too big. The maturation adds fruitiness to this dram, and does not make it too sour as can be the case with many port matured  or finished whiskies.
    • Nose
Fruity and grassy, like a nice breakfast with cereals and red fruits (strawberries, cherries, grapes and plums)
    • Taste
Medium-bodied, slightly sour because of the maturation, with the same elements as in the nose (although it's more to stewed fruit than fresh fruit)
    • Finish
      Medium, pleasant.

  17. Rom did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Raspberry nose, pink Malabar chewing gum and some oak. Mouth quite watery, melted between red fruits and discrete tannins, charcoal. Too short but good if not better than Lasanta and Nectar d'Or.

  18. MY MALTS scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

After grapes tasting entry ... Wonderfully soft ... delicious ... Since it's a "young" whisky, the infamous Port woodiness did not stand a chance ...

  19. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

that exceeds my expectations! The aroma is absolutely awesome! Strong and expressive, but at the same time extremely gentle in the mouth. Also very tasty!
    • Nose
Fruit, chocolate (whole milk), vanilla and spices, orange
    • Taste
soft, sweet, dark fruit, oak, chocolate (rather dark)
    • Finish
Spices and raisins and slightly bitter orange peel.

  21. irrerelevant scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

very full, a lot of ex-bourbon influence, vanilla, a lot of caramel, pleasant oak, red grapes, nice Portnote, some honey, but not so harmonious, the port seems a bit "put on", one means a Portreifung "next to" an Ex-Bourbon -Reifung in the glass to have

  22. MY MALTS scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Cozy drop ... Will be "rougher" if he "stands too long" ...

  23. Kaltduscher scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Soft and sweet. Chocolate. Sherry. Raisins. Prunes. Cinnamon. Tangerines. Malt.
    • Taste
Almost liqueur-like. Slight fruitiness. Vanilla. Malt. Some oak.
    • Finish
Medium. Mild. Raisins. Juicy cherries. Tangerines. Malt. Drying with pickled cherries.

  24. WillemvdK scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Good whisky. Excellent value for money. But get ready for some sweet stuff.
    • Nose
A not really outspoken nose. A little bit of caramel, toffee, cherries maybe and a little bit of walnut. Not bad, on the contrary, but it's a bit "silent".
    • Taste
Extremely sweet arrival of caramel and dark red fruits. Some spices like cinnamon and cloves. A little yeast too.
    • Finish
Medium to long and pretty sweet. What really stands out is a sort of yeasty character.

Quinta Ruban is Glenmorangie`s port finish. To craft this single malt they specially selected Port pipes from the Douro valley in Portugal
The nose is full of winter berries and a touch of port. A good oak and a little cereal hanging in the substratum. The palate is sweet and thick. The port note is chewy and rich with notes of barley sugar and cereal and lots of juicy fruit and berries, a tad cloying. The finish is long and fruity and quite sweet.

  36. granella2003 scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Dark chocolate mint, mandarins and Seville oranges and hints of sandalwood, walnuts and spices such as pepper and nutmeg
    • Taste
Flavours of mint chocolate and walnuts floating on a silky texture, gecomplenteerd by floral flavors and sweet Seville oranges
    • Finish
Silky finish of dark chocolate, mint and refreshing notes of orange

This seems to be a wrong image here, because this bottling shouldn`t have an age statement on the label like the newer bottlings

The darkest and most intense whisky in the extra-matured range, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal.

Nose: Mild, clear port. Slightly alcoholic. Overall, but rather no strong nose, spicy, warm, slightly sweet

Mouth: Moderate starting. Distinct alcohol, initially sweet, which later turns into a dry spice, is altogether soft without becoming very strong and strong. Port, fruity, but no typical sweetness, like a sherrycask.

Finish. Medium. Dry, alcohol stays behind. At the end there is a slight bitterness and the influence of the pores.

  42. hsmithjr scored this whisky 71 points Connoisseur

A very odd finished whisky.  It starts off very well, but falls flat about half way through.  Not my favorite.
    • Nose
Sweet.  Tawny port.  Kumquats.  Tangelos.  Flan. Cereal grains on the back end.
    • Taste
Sweet and chewy.  Very floral (pansies, violets, and wild roses). Milk chocolate.  Spicy oak.  Malted barley and more cereal.  After this, the wine notes hit, and hard.  It strongly detracts from otherwise a nice palate.
    • Finish
Medium.  Sweet, yet spicy.  Small hints of the oak.  Drying.  Orange jelly beans?

This is the first time i have tried a malt that has been finished in port casks and i must say it was a pleasant suprise and something i would like to try again.
    • Nose
A lovely nose of treacle, chcolate and prunes.
    • Taste
Again a lovely sweet taste of chocolate mixed with fruits.
    • Finish
A long finish with confectionery tones

  45. markjedi1 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

This is a vast improvement over the old version, but
still not a top class dram.
    • Nose
It is much sweeter and rounder on the nose with toffee
and crème brûlée, wood berries, pears and mandarin. Nothing sour in this case, which is a relief. A touch
      floral. Silky soft.
    • Taste
On the palate it is almost creamy and very sweet: pear
      syrup, pineapple, mandarin. Feisty
with some good allspice. But midpalate, the wine suddenly rears its ugly head
in full force, making you pull an ugly face. Too vinous. Pity.
    • Finish
The finish, which is short, bursts with oak and some
      sugared mandarin.

A definite port finish,as betrayed by the color. Very summery light and thirst-quenching.
    • Nose
Perky, refreshing. Pink grapefruit. The light and charming sweetness of juicy plums.
    • Taste
Silky, with a muslin-like feel. The same delicate pleasing sweetness brings fruity flavors. A wine touch followed by dryspices.
    • Finish
      Dry with a tingling fizziness.

  48. mmaclean scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

I love this version, it is a 12 yr and full of

flavor. It is priced right and is great on the port, subtle of mocha and

spice on the finish. Drinkable on any occasion

  49. Willie JJ scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

I love this. I appear to have drunk about 8cl in the writing of this
note and that's always a sign that there is a lot going on and I need to
think to sort it out. But, it's not complex in an unbalanced way. It
all seems to hang together in wonderful harmony. Time to stop messing
around and buy one of these I think.
    • Nose
None of the Lasanta sulphur here. Its as clean as a whistle. Lovely
maltiness, but with Linseed and Fennel. Hint of marzipan amongst the
floral notes. Oaky too, but it is light. It's the port that supplying
      the spice, not the oak.
    • Taste
Mixed peel and chocolate; tastes like carnations would (I guess).
Wonderful union between the spice of the oak and the port. Almost
      fizzing on the palate. Yummy.
    • Finish
Long, lingering, spicy and delicious. The oak doesn't re-emerge on the finish for me, but my palate may be fading.

  50. Feusi scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

A port cask finishing that I believe is not really top. Herb and sweet notes on the tongue with a certain sharpness that I do not like altogether.  I guess that Glenmorangie was trying to improve a flat barrel with a second maturation.

    • Nose
Nose: Sweet, jam of berries, quite vinous but not at the end
    • Taste
Palate: Very well balanced, quite complex between the aromas of wine from the barrel and the distillate. A big boy but very well educated â € "

    • Nose
Nose is rather nice I must say. You can
find flowers and fruits, green apples, apple compote, tangerines, almonds roasted
      in honey and cornflakes.
    • Taste
It starts sweet with hints of honey and
sherry. Sweetness comes from almonds, citrus, apples and peach.
    • Finish
Medium long, sweet and lightly hot.

This is a whisky with port wine finish, and wood finishes isn't my cup of tea. They come with strange flavors too...
    • Nose
Tingling nose feeling, from the alcohol. Fruitier then expected.
    • Taste
Rich flavors, maybe I can taste some from the port wine finish?
    • Finish
      Short finish, bitter.
