This lesser-known whisky from the Isle of Arran takes you on a fascinating journey of smell and taste. A tropical fruit basket with papaya, mango, pineapple and melon awaits the nose, enriched by aromatic spices, honey and cereals. It's quite complex! After an intense and citrusy arrival, the taste evolves floral and gingery with hints of sage, coriander and fructose. The oak kicks in nicely, leading to a robust and chocolaty bitter finish. For a mid-aged Single Malt, Arran 14 is really hitting the spot. It's a big event, an excellent value and highly recommended!

N- Not nosing as 'old' and oily as previous batch. This new batch may be less expressive, but gives more on fresh cut fruits, fragrant honey extract, toffee and sourish tart passion fruit. Despite soft, still with plenty of muscle and solid on structure.

P- Compote of sweet fruits in orange and zesty pear juice, drizzle with abundance of honey. Sphere of chocolate coating.

F- Medium, husky hue, spirit-y dry sparred with the fruity sweetness, well rounded. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

Arran 14 is a bit of a Goldilocks, it shines when the water is just right. The nose (once properly aired and watered) presents soft raisins, gentle vanilla, peaches, gingerbread and a salty citrus tang. The palate experiences quite the flavour journey. The arrival begins with a rush of apple juice, after which the charred oak spikes in the mid-palate. This in turn fades away to reveal cooking spices, a touch of vanilla, honey, soft cereals and more salty citrus. The finish is warming, decently long with no unpleasant notes. Arran 14 takes more work than usual to enjoy, but give it water and time, and it rewards your patience. Honest whisky at a commendable price.

An excellent whisky. Fragrant and full of flavours. If you like those elderflower soft drinks and spice you will love this one.
    • Nose
Lovely fruity and slightly malty nose with peaches, pineapple and a very distinct aroma of elderflower that accentuates with water. A little vanilla and honey.
    • Taste
Continues from the nose. Fresh fruit arrival with pineapple, peaches, pears and a hint of elderflower. Fairly honeyed. Develops a very discreet and fresh lemon sourness and a little ginger. Towards the finish the ginger and elderflower becomes more pronounced.
    • Finish
Long, spicy, biscuity and slightly dry. Elderflower, sweet chili, bitter dark chocolate, oak and a little saltiness.

    • Taste
Light peppers, honey, vanilla, peach. Oak
    • Finish
For a long time, some peppery, dry, goes to some bitter. Also sweet, honey, light peach. And (oak) wood.

C: Well worth the maturation jump from 10 to 14 years. Both this and the 10yo share the sour citrus & barley sugar character. Additionally, cocoa notes [amongst others], help shape the form and honeyed bitter lemon finish. We are told the 14yo is likely to be discontinued, so grab your bottle while you can.

An interesting and quite powerful malt of Arran. Here I like the sour fruitiness paired with the peppery spice. The finish could be a bit more harmonious and interesting. PLV is good, but the Arran 18J is the better choice for me.

fresh-fruity-sweet (fruit, citrus); Vanilla; Honey; Herbal notes; subtle notes of spicy oak behind
    • Taste

powerful; starts sour-sweet and tingling on the tongue; then goes more in a peppery-spicy character; slightly dry and nutty-chocolaty; Citrus fruitiness
    • Finish

warming; sweet and spicy (slightly peppery); still agreeably bitter oak notes emerge

I like it very much today. More intense than I remembered him as fruit and pepper. Tastes.
    • Nose
Lemon fresh, the first scent rises in the nose. Then quickly becomes intense and fruity. Pear, peach, nice game of sweetness and acidity. Lemon cake with icing.
After a while he becomes herbal. Some fresh grass. And honey.
    • Taste
In the mouth it starts again sour-fruity. The 46% are pleasant, alcohol barely noticeable, taste is there. And with pepper! From the fruity sweet and sour mix comes out suddenly a pepper note. But fits somehow. Make history even more interesting. But then it goes down again and it gets lemony and tainted in the finish. Stayed for a while.

    Color: pale gold

Compensates for time and water. Above average 14 year old for good money, sometimes has something Irish.
    • Nose
Opens after about 3 minutes, fir honey, mint, ripe mango, malt beer, oatmeal. Honeysuckle. With water: floral, fruity. Elderflower syrup, passion fruit. Something sherry.
    • Taste
Oatmeal, light tingling, elderflower syrup, mango, hot coffee. With water: elderflower syrup, malt beer. Ginger. Canned peaches.
    • Finish
Cacao, (rum) grape nut chocolate, wet earth, some residual fruit. Peach.
