What is Irish Single Malt?

“Irish Single Malt” is shorthand on Whiskybase for bottlings that meet the Single Malt Irish Whiskey GI definition: whiskey made at one distillery from 100% malted barley in pot stills, produced and matured on the island of Ireland for ≥3 years in wooden casks ≤700 L, bottled at ≥40% ABV, with only water and plain caramel colouring (E150a) permitted. Under the GI, the term “Single” may only be used when all the whiskey was distilled on the site of a single distillery.

On Whiskybase, “Irish Single Malt” functions as a brand label grouping many independent releases and undisclosed-distillery bottlings; you’ll also see this phrasing used on real-world labels.
