Whisky Reviews for Irish Single Malt 1988 Ram

  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Fantastic undisclosed Bushmills (that's what it is, because Cooley just started distilling in 1989) with all the typical tropical flavours to die for.
    • Nose
The nose directly shows all its tropical juicy fruitiness of pineapples, kiwi's and papaya. Later on plenty of delicate bitter-sweetness of gooseberries and grapefruits. Hints of fresh cedar wood. Marzipan and marshmallows as well.
    • Taste
Now more on citrus fruit; lemon, orange peel and lime. Cherry glace and pear drops. I also got Turkish Delight and some pastry. Honey-clover and a touch of vanilla at the background. I like this style a lot.
    • Finish
Long and dry. White pepper and a little ginger. Salty at the end. Well balanced Irish.

    Beautiful old fruity irish malt
    • Nose
Tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, kiwi, gooseberry, green tea
    • Taste
Sweet and dry, quite oaky, tannins, after some time more fruity a grassy, citrus and tropical fruits
    • Finish
      Long, fruity

    http://www.weinkenner.de/2014/drei-whiskys-aus-dem-bourbonfass-von-der-gruenen-insel-34256/ Color: straw yellow
Nose: Green-flowery with mineral salt, gooseberries, quince, mirabelle, pineapple and creamy-sweet honey. But also with notes of straw and hay, creamy sweets and vanilla. After prolonged breathing, more and more intensive rubbers develop.
Taste: Sweet, but at the same time tart and salty. Pineapple juice, black pepper and getting saltier and saltier. Notes of a glowing fuse as well as of herbs, fir resin and sweet, ripe apples develop dominant towards the end of the taste.
Finish: Long - mineral-salty with aromas of white chocolate, vanilla, black tea, pine needles and tart peppermint leaves.
    90 points (nose: 89 / taste: 90 / finish: 90)

I haven't had many Irish whiskies so far. however, this one is of exceptional quality. I don't think there are many casks of 76 tomatins left in the warehouses so I am curious to find an alternative supply of fruity whiskies, glad I've found one
    • Nose
      fruity, clean  and slightly herbal
    • Taste
light and smooth almost silky. considering this dram is bottled straight from the cask at 50% abv that comes surprisingly (thanks to the triple distillation process:-)
    • Finish
... definitely the highlight, no doubt about it.

a stunning fruitiness driven by blackcurrant as the dominating flavor, love it!
