Wedding - usually not a part of Berlin I'm very keen to visit. However, curiosity to explore new whisky bars won over my reluctance to travel up to S Bornholmer Straße, which is only 5 minutes away from Offside Wedding.
At 5 pm, we were the first guests which allowed me to take some photos of the bar before it became crowded. The list of more than 1,000 whiskies available needed some preparation, so I had a list of drams I was eager to taste. I became slightly concerned, as my first two orders released quite a bit of stress for the bartender to actually find the requested bottles. Managing the truly superb selection of whiskies obviously came with some challenges. However, more experienced colleagues joined him in the evening, so except for some empty bottles that were still on the menu, I had no complains.
The ambience of this place was pretty decent, all guests were rather civilized while for the most part sipping their beer. A group of regulars was sitting next to us, and with whisky items stuffed till under the ceiling, the place had a lot of style and charisma. It was never too noisy to have a conversation or write tasting notes, and the fact that smoking inside is now prohibited is another plus.
Living in Norway, I'm always delighted to see whisky prices abroad, but even without this bias I would give Offside Wedding a very decent score for value. I had 6 high-end drams and we ended up paying around 100 € for 2 persons. I have definitely seen worse, let alone in Oslo.
I will visit this bar again, the range of malts is too good to be ignored. Places like Loch Ness in Steglitz are a bit closer to where I am accommodated, but my overall score certainly justifies the effort.
