Auction Value on Whiskybase

Knowing a whisky’s Auction Value is an essential piece of information for anyone who wants to track the value of their collection, or buy or sell a special bottle.

Rather than Average Shop Price, which tracks asking prices (or what sellers hope to get), Auction Value is a view of what buyers have actually paid for whisky at auction. For many bottles, the gap between a shop’s asking price and the whisky’s real market value can be wide.

How we calculate Auction Value

Unlike the Average Shop Price calculation on bottle pages, which is based solely on shop listings, Auction Value is based on real market transactions, using verified transaction data from Whiskystats.

Auction Values on Whiskybase are a 90-day moving average of buyer prices (hammer price plus buyer fees) from whisky auctions around the world.

If you’re using Auction Value to help you decide whether to buy or sell a bottle, you should remember that Average Value does not factor in seller fees or VAT. Be sure to take these into account, depending on where you might sell your whisky.

How to activate Auction Values

Auction Values are exclusive to Whiskybase Plus members, and can be found in the In My Collection Tab, bottle overlay in the Collection Shelf view, and in the Collection Value chart on the Insights tab. If you’re not yet a member of Whiskybase Plus, upgrade now to immediately unlock Auction Value.
