    It´s the best whisky I ever tasted. We had it in a blindtest at our whisky club and we all agreed (and we ordered the rest of the bottles available). It´s legendary! Perhaps a cask strength Macallan from the 80´s is compareable.

  6. DerDennis! Plus scored this whisky 92 points Specialist

    It's completely different! Extremely spicy in the smell, with a lot of anise, caraway and clove.
    Then the taste is sweet and spicy. Above all, pleasant maritime notes and light smoke.
    Great long finish.

    A hidden Port Mourrrrrrant rum in Hazelburn dress.
    • Nose
      93 93
      Spicy, sweet rum, Demerara sugar, some cough syrup, creme brulee, caramelized vanilla pudding with a shot, a really cool nose
    • Taste
      90 90
      Extremely sweet, again vanilla and sweet and spicy rum, creamy and very warming, dry oak flavor
    • Finish
      88 88
      Very hot finish with lots of strength and spice, vanilla sugar, creamy and slightly bitter oak stays long and warming on the palate

  10. Mascht scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    a great Dram, more reminiscent of a Springbank than a Hazelburn
    • Nose
      light, leather, honey, chocolate covered candied orange and wild aromas like a pickled venison
    • Taste
      maritime, soft and mineral
    • Finish
      long, soft, black chalk and some dried fruit

  11. theograph scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    An ingenious Hazelburn, an ex-Bourbon barrel that should be confused with an ex-sherry barrel or even a red wine barrel!
    • Nose
      Caramel, chocolate, nut, marzipan, spices (cloves), leather / tobacco, dark fruit flavors, almost sherry-style, earthy, subtly smoky and above all wonderful minerally - chalky or even salty;
    • Taste
      Distinct red and ripe fruit flavors, tannins, acid notes, spices, dark chocolate, association with red wine, mineral - chalky;
    • Finish
      Medium long, beautifully fruity, almost with a hint of wine, mineral;

  13. Malinois scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    Very nice dram, I like it a lot. Very nice enjoying this at a leazy sunday like this.

    Would have scorred one point higher if the eind of the finish wasn't so dry (for my standards)
    • Nose
      Clean minerally (only at first), whiff of peat, oranges, peach

      A bit later: the same as above but more oranges.
    • Taste
      Candied oranges now, peach, a bit spices and more peat as in the nose. The entry is quite soft & mouthcouting at this abv% and age.

      After some sips the light sweetness comes out and also more fruity.
    • Finish
      Light sopy, oranges, whiff of peat, later a bit tannanic & dies a bit dry

  14. KayMeertens scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    A very special Hazelburn.
    • Nose
      Candied orange and cherry. Toffee, papaya, milk chocolate and peat. A clear malty note as well. Some peach and vanilla when adding water.
    • Taste
      Toffee, candied orange, papaya, hazelnut, milk chocolate, peat, coconut and spice.
    • Finish
      Coffee, dark chocolate, peat, candied orange and peach.

  15. Jimjam scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    Spirit and wood in balance. This has taken a lot from the wood in its 12 years. Excellent cask - first fill? Richer than I would expect from Hazelburn - closer to Springbank.
    • Nose
      Very dark in colour, and quite “Christmas cake-y” on the nose for straight ex-bourbon, too. Malty, with rich caramel. Coconut. Some dried fruit. Vanilla
    • Taste
      Rich, malty, characterful.
      With water: More spicy, some oranges
    • Finish
      Warming spice. Dark/dried fruit. Lifted by vanilla and honey. Deep orange flavour
