Whisky Reviews for Strathisla 12-year-old
7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 80.18 points
- What a shame all I could taste was caramel. Originally I bought an older Cadenheads Sttathisla bottling and bought this to see how I got on with Stathisla. Fortunately the older bottling got opened first and was good, Had I opened this first I would have given up. Why the caramel colouring and the chill filtering? It spoils a potentially decent whisky.
Vanilla, sweetness, floral notes, heat and later plum.
Sweetness, vanilla, dried fruits, grasses, some salt, slightly phenolic notes.
Sweet, later dry and peppery, grass, vanilla with medium-long finish.
- Average acceptable molt
Soft, smooth, honey, apple jam, marmalade, raisins, peanut butter, oak shades
Soft, apple jam, marmalade, raisins
Not continuous, apple jam
- 12 years seems a long time to have waited to produce this...
Roasted fruit is present on the nose, slightly acidic tang.
Quite a sharp taste on the palate with more acidic notes present.
Quite short on the finish - sherried, but not particularly warming.
- The nose is weak on this one and the palate is a little flat but its perfectly drinkable.
I have had much better 12 year in the last few years, perhaps just batch variation?
