A really fine allday dram. Very fruity and not complicated.
    • Nose
Beeswax, honey, apricot and orange zest. Sweet fruit, apple, pear. A little nut and oak in the background, very discreet.
    • Taste
waxy and soft in the mouth. Malt, cereals, again fruit and some honey sweetness. This time stronger oak, a little nut and dark chocolate.
    • Finish
Short to medium long and dry, dark chocolate, orange.

  2. Achany scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

Sweet, candy, massive honey, nearly too much of it. Retaste is necessary, did not expect such a dram (25.08.17 - still incredible sweet, more malty, some herbs, quite all right but overall same rating)

"Hell" is a characteristic of many aspects of this malt, as I see - and when I go through the impressions again, it does it excellently. Bright in the sense of light and fresh. Bright but also in the sense of a little too thin and superficial. This core malt of the Chivas shelf blends is certainly not a deep, complex drop. In my opinion, it also has a little too much alcoholic sharpness to be completely round and pleasing. At our last colleague tasting, he completely separated the spirits from bright enthusiasm for this cheap drop on the one hand to equally passionate rejection on the other. Why do I like him so much overall? Perhaps because of this tension between fruit and herbal aromas, alcoholic sting and lightness ...

After pouring, the light amber-colored malt runs down the glass wall in a few thin noses. The nose hovers around a bright fruitiness and sharp freshness, at first almost like a complex fruit tree. Pear and apple are in the foreground, along with other sweet fruit notes, banana, peach and a hint of pineapple, along with a little sherry-typical plum. Fruit and freshness is then followed by an intense sweetness, almost marzipan, but definitely light caramel. A little longer in the glass, however, there is also a slight tinge of freshly cut grass and lacquered wood, or better: fresh resin. All in all, the Strathisla in the nose seems cold rather than warm.

On the palate, the freshness, sweetness and fruit in the nose make the spontaneous impression a bit too light, almost thin - a little bit a shame. But pleasantly, after a first impression of alcoholic spiciness, almond flavors, caramel, a little pineapple and orange peel quickly prevail, but not overpoweringly sweet but rather hearty, reminiscent of oatmeal cookies or green tea.

There is also a herbal bitter note in the medium-long finish, which reminds me of Ramazotti, for example, but is lighter and with less superficial sweetness.

exciting whisky, with which one should occupy itself quite longer, than I did now. For my taste a bit too much of tannins and oak.
    • Nose
Immediately a strong, slightly artificial green apple flows from the glass, accompanied by a 'dull' note, which I can not quite name, perhaps chlorine, but not stinging. The whole nose looks heavy, and set, flavored pipe tobacco, old leather, strong oak, foliage-covered forest soil. A few herbs, some forest honey and a slight floral note are still behind.
    • Taste
very easy onset, and watery mouthfeel. Apples and forest honey. The oak becomes spicy / bitter and the tongue starts to roast. Again the dark notes, old leather.
    • Finish
Medium long, dominated by the tannins of the oak, clearly bitter. Still the apple comes through. White pepper. Some burnt caramel.
