Can you get more sherry into a whisky than Kavalan can? Well, Edradour maybe. You could almost call this whiskied sherry. It's extreme in every kind of way, making this a not so everyday dram. It has almost everything I pursue in sherried whisky though, but the impression of artificiality is long lasting. I get it with the climate thingy, maybe that is playing a big factor in my experience. Still, very tasty and a must for lovers of sherrybombs.
    • Nose
Massive oldschool sherry nose. Cooked and stewed fruits like orange, tangerine, maraschino cherry, raisin and overripe banana. Then assorted chocolate, fudge, praliné, apple pie, Nutella and licorice. Further on dark honey, old books, leather, balsamic vinegar and a hint of sweet bbq sauce This nose is to die for. Multi-layered and a good example of how different sherry casks can be.
    • Taste
As intensely sherried as the nose and quite dry as a result. More of a high percentage cream sherry than whisky. Orange, raisin, overripe banana, maraschino cherry and mango. After this initial sweetness we're heading towards a nutty and umami side with brown sugar, moccha, espresso, cinnamon, straciatella ice cream, walnut and balsamic vinegar. Some oak, wood polish and something burnt or smokey too.
Lots of flavour and exactly the kind of sherry cask I like. It's bone dry though, which could be a little less to my taste. Adding water is not recommended, that throws it off-balance. Crazy how it falls apart that fast.
    • Finish
Not very long. Drying with dark fruit, some oaky notes and something I can't put my finger on. Something metallic?
