  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 78 points Connoisseur

    Tasted blind.

Initially pleasant but slightly strange, which is explained by my lack of previous experience with Millstone. With a bit of water and time it turned out slightly disappointing, yet with no obvious flaws.
    • Nose
A weird woodiness, spices (peppers), and some herbal touches on first nosing. Vague fruity notes and sour dark bread. Really these sourdough bread notes are so strong I initially thought it could be a rye or have some rye involved in it somehow. Cumin seeds, and once again these sweet and sour bready touches. A few drops of water makes it sweeter, and brings out a bit of aniseed.
    • Taste
Peppery and faintly fruity. A dry young woodiness and licorice. Tastes young, and water makes it a bit planky and sawdusty.
    • Finish
A peppery, dry and spicy aftertaste that goes away quickly, so this must be young.

At first drop, salmiak in the nose. Weakens later. Raisins. Peppery in the mouth. Nice aftertaste.

N: Wine gums, confectionary fruits and bakers fruits with an interesting sherry complex that requires some attention.
    T: Lovely arrival, fabulous glugger.
F: Finally the oloroso takes possession, but what a cask.
C: Good leading cask and that nose is fun as

    Scores a B-

  9. St. Pauli scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

This is how versatile Zuidam can be. This is a single malt that would make you think it's a rye actually. I guess this was matured in new French oak to add a lot of spiciness to the spirit. A perfect aperitive.
    • Nose
Smells very spicy for a single malt. Rosemary, bay leaf, holly, juniper. Behind this blast of spiciness comes sweet malt, vanilla, orange juice, orange zest, and caramelised pear.
    • Taste
It's creamy, full-bodied yet very spicy and herbal: stem ginger, juniper, pine resin, rosemary, orange marmalade, candied dried fruits, and vanilla. The taste ends woody and dry.
    • Finish
The finish is quite long, and milder than the palate suggests. There is vanilla, oak, nutmeg, clove, bay leaf, ginger, and orange zest.
