  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

It's another clean, sharp TWE release but it doesn't quite reach the 9yo TWE for TWS retro label's (89 pts) impeccable palate nor the 8yo Caol Ila cask 315325's (88 pts) instant attractiveness.
    • Nose
Neat: Tar, dark honey and some citrus zest. Slight saltiness. Talisker without the sea? Hand lotion and a wonderful greasy smoke. Surprisingly expressive for over 57%.

With water it's no longer as chiseled and sharp. Some rockiness creeps in, and it gets chalkier and slightly farm-ish.
    • Taste
Neat: The body is very ready as is, in fact water doesn't improve it. Tar, some liquorice and rather quiet wood. The last one is there but it's unusually muted for a TWE pick ;) Water brings up some tar candy sweetness (like some läkerol drops) and vague chalkiness.
    • Finish
The finish is the only place where water helps. Neat it is persistent in that usual lingering smoke of peated whisky way, but otherwise very hollow. Water evens it out but I'm a bit torn on whether to enjoy its cleanness neat or the lasting finish when decanted.
