    Blind sample.

Quite artificial tasting. Leafy, malty, herbal with an artificial coffee liqueur note. Interesting but not one I’d want tons of. I like what Westland is doing, but this isn’t my favourite expression.

    • Nose
      85 85
Sweet and light with a slight bourbon feel to it but way more subtle (no rye and heavy oak notes), vanilla, grainy (oats), sultana's, coconut, toffee, wood shavings, wood glue, some cinnamon and allspice.
    • Taste
      84 84
Vanilla, four-grain cookies, some generic dried fruitiness, a little caramel, more spicy on wood than the nose, slightly dusty, nutmeg, clove and some pepper.
    • Finish
      80 80
A bit dry: faint fruits, caramel, more dusty wood, still some wood glue, clove, nutmeg and pepper.

good whiskey, somewhere between single malt with a bourbon touch. I think the oak is a little too loud and a little too green, you can only guess the fire, which is really a single malt. But it doesn't taste like bourbon either. So already something of your own. Maybe not terrific, but technically clean. Single malt American style, there were much worse ones, even within Scotland.
    • Nose
Sweet, malty, the oak pushes quite well, black tea, autumn leaves, the barrel then brings in almost a slightly green note, wet wood. The nose is a little different than expected.
    • Taste
tart and somewhat restless, again a strange green note, herbaceous, only a little fruit.
    • Finish
warm alcohol, mint, lots of cooling wood. The oak dominates and lets the malt get pretty dry at the end, but still a rather short finish.

    • Nose

Cereals, honey, vanilla and some dried fruits.
    • Taste
      83 83
Vanilla, candied fruits, savoury touches, cereal and honey.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long with a great complexity of grainy and fruity tones.

Well done whiskey. I liked this one better than other Westlands. I especially liked the beautiful salty notes on the nose and palate.

    Tastes really good.
    • Nose
      84 84
Strong sweetness, very reminiscent of a bourbon. Vanilla with honey and peach notes. In addition, banana with a subtle note of phenol.
    • Taste
      86 86
Here the grain comes more to the fore. Malty sweetness with vanilla and honey again. A couple of caramel candies with red sweet apples and some licorice.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium length. The grain with a little sugar water remains on the palate.

Very bourbon and rye’ish. The virgin oak had quite some influence on this Westland. I find it quite tasty though with loads of vanilla, coconut, maple syrup, nougat and wood spices. Don’t add water, it destroys it.

Very well done and nice, but a little too clean and smooth for my taste. Distillery to follow, certainly

  10. thijs100 scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Especially the nose was satisfying, and as a whole the whiskey works too, although I feel the palate lacks a bit of balance with just a bit too much spiciness.
    • Nose
Lovely sweet virgin oak and bourbon influences. Nougat, coconut shavings and vanilla, with a touch of glue and varnish (getting a bit stronger with time). Whiffs of chocolate and orange peel.
    • Taste
Very rum-like. Citrus peel, yellow raisins and plenty of spice. And again oranges and chocolate.
    • Finish
Again, pretty sweet. Chocolate and oranges, as well as coffee. Medium in length.
