    Excellent.
    • Nose
Colour wise this is dark for an old Ardbeg so I am expecting some sherry influence. I seldom mention colour but this has a lovely hue (sorry I know that sounds silly).

Is this really only 43% there is a lot going on, there is the obvious peat and brine but burning wood smoke is in the mix. What I really like is the fact that it also smells more like a farmyard than the seashore, like the best 72-74 Brora offerings.

Damp wood, mushroom, rock pools seaweed but then the farmy smell returns with lots of hay but then I get warm sponge?

Excellent nose, if the palate matches it , this will get a big score.
    • Taste
There it is, not the power the nose suggested, smooth (sorry peatbogger) and yes elegant at first bit the peat is of the spicy kind, very lively like the best Caol Ila.

There is honey, melon, apple, a little lemon, sherbet fizz but the way the peat mixes with the sherry and fruit is really good and even the few woody bitter notes add to the profile in a positive way.
    • Finish
Good medium length and the peat and fruity sweetness balance out
