  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

I had a hard time scoring this one. It started promisingly, but too hollow. I hoped water would improve it, but instead it just brought out some ethanol, vanilla, and oiliness.

    Tasted with 5 other Bruichladdich: Bere Barley 2008 (84 pts.), Bere Barley 2010 (82), Elements of Islay Br5 (84), 12yo 2004 "A Dream of Scotland (82), and 13yo cask 5016 by Maltman (85).

Thanks to member GIORGOS for the sample!
    • Nose
The nose is more mature than Bere Barley 2008 or 2010, or that's how it feels like. Could be just a louder cask? Let's see. Coastal, with a wisp of that dreaded butyric acid that sometimes creeps into Laddie. A tighter, sharper nose than either of the aforementioned Beres, with a fair bit of dry oak, antiseptic, nettles... With water, some bone dry oak and vanilla.
    • Taste
Oh, it's a mezcal? You could be mistaken with that oily, smoky cactus thing it has going on. The oak feels nicely mature and rounded, but otherwise this is a big *POW* in the face compared to the Beres, because this one feels peatier. Water brings some clear ethanol, unfortunately.
    • Finish
Long. Starts on sal-ammoniac and a plenty of oak and citrus, but then turns gingery.
