    Diageo Tasting Notes

Color: Deep golden yellow with amber reflections

Aroma: Amazingly lively, quickly turning into sweetness. Pure fruity top notes of ripe red apples, pineapple and cape gooseberries rise above a broad, sweetish blend of soft strawberry chewy candy, shortbread biscuits and milk chocolate with soft, juicy toffee. Nutty, with a hint of candle wax; softer with a little water; Gradually, a light minty nuance of pine wood develops with delicate hints of waxy red berries; then increasing depth with dark toffee, fruit and almond in front of the pungency of fresh green apples and ginger.

Taste: Light, very soft body. Cool on the palate, slightly dry, resinous (pine); increasing warmth and sweetness, as if caramel ice cream were permeated with pungent smoke; then rather dense, with a note of raisins and hints of pear drops and plum as well as a sharpness in the finish. Water brings out its best qualities, now cooler, a little sweet, salty and slightly waxy, with ginger and white pepper; increasingly tough and enveloping; briefly fruity, then warming like a lush moist ginger cake.

Finish: Short but warm, gentle and sweet, with hints of creme brulee and ginger, superimposed by light, purifying eucalyptus. A light wood tone is created, while the sweetness is underlined by subtle tannins. Light with water, like an aperitif.

    Tasting Notes by TWE

Nose: Toffee, varnish and model glue – the holy
trinity of flavours that characterise both a misspent youth and a
well-aged grain whisky. It’s dense without water, with bursts of fruit
gums, wax furniture polish, cinnamon mints and coffee cream. Water opens
things up, revealing stacks of squishy fruit and a touch of spicy
    sawdust.
Palate: Sweet, spicy and concentrated with an almost
Irish-pot-still-like fruity character – Wham bars, gummi bears, black
fruit pastilles and fruit gums, dried mango, stewed sweet tea and a
grind of black pepper. Water calms things down and sweetens things up
    with a sprinkling of toffee.
Finish: More blackcurrant sweets, green leaves, dark
chocolate and the varnish from the nose. Water adds in some dusty spice
    as things fade.
Comment: Tasted blind, I’d swear this was an Irish
whiskey – it’s packed with sweet fruit. Fortunately, it’s not a
one-trick pony, and the spice adds another dimension.
