In the past Arran has produced a range of overflowing cask finishes, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Brandy, Calvados, Champagne ... Of those, there are currently four versions, Sauternes, Sherry, Porto and this one Amarone. Amarone is an Italian wine that has an AOC. Powerful since it holds + 16% alcohol and from a grape that has been "dried", it takes several kilos of grapes to get a bottle of this wine. Three varieties, Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. It is a type of barrel which seems to me very little used, I do not have in memory another example, perhaps will you find for me? http://sebwhisky.over-blog.com/-007
    • Nose
We immediately capture its fruity, winey character, but that does not spoil the character of the whisky. Red fruits, chocolate, orange, a small greedy mixture. One of the advantages of this finish is that it masks a possible youth without distorting the product.
    • Taste
Very soft. Of course the influence of wine is impossible to miss. Red fruits, pomegranate syrup, strawberries, grapes. Alcohol is very well integrated, allowing you to focus on the flavors. Spices abound next, pepper, nutmeg and more woody notes. There is always a little chocolate and the orange takes on the appearance of a jelly.
    • Finish
The typical markers of Arran come back in the end, with these notes of apples, fresh fruit. This is overtaken by wood, a little spice and of course fruits like cherry ... all offers a medium hold.

Old bar review (2017) in The Malt Vault in Utrecht. Great place, good company and fine dram.

Very long and quite complex. However, I only wrote down red fruit and cacao at the time.

The wine barrel has its effect. Very fine winey taste, fruity. Alcohol can also be felt in the nose.
    • Nose
Very intense fruit note grapes, berries but also a nice, subtle fruit sweetness
    • Taste
The finish is nice, long, fruity sweet at first and a bit earthy at the end. I really like that.

During the 2018 edition of the Pot Still festival in Amersfoort Aran distillery was there with a new portfolio of new bottlings. That continued during 2019. I tasted this bottle last year and bought one some days after. Maybe I should not have done that. Nice bottle for its price, but there is much better stuff out there.

An enjoyable smooth whisky, with hints of sweetness, cinnamon and a bouquet of fruity notes.

    Very nice!
    • Nose
Smells very strong, alcoholic, needs some time.
    • Taste
Tasty, fruity, but also different, really great. The Amarone Cask Finish has something ... Now comes the vanilla.
