Very similar to rum medium aging. Chocolate roll, cocoa, black currant, leather, caraway, bay leaves, apricot jam, blackberries, varnish, glue, paint, coal.

With 51% it seems closed to me. A few drops of water open it. By grinding grain distillate from various distillery characters, a complex grain whiskey has been created.
    • Nose
His nose smells of lacquer, polish, marzipan, sweet malt, toffee, banana peel and, of course, wood. There are also aromas of ripe fruit, Marc de Champagne truffle and of course old rum.
    • Taste
In the mouth it is very mild and balanced. Rumkugel (chocolate and Jamaican rum), sweet malt, but also flavors of leather, polish and a good portion of wood without bitterness. Just fantastic
    • Finish
The finish is sweet, rumkugelig and medium in length with mild wood.

  6. Calmar scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Not bad for the grains, better than the 50-year release, more deeply, varied came out, the whiskey turned out to be lively, developing, active, the aroma with a poor palette of derivatives is very pleasant, dynamic; the taste also did not disappoint, but the finish came out at all excellent, complex, long, developing from warming to light refreshing; no fatigue is felt at all, very cheerful and moveable.
    • Nose
Open, dry, dry boards, furniture varnish, camphor, eucalyptus, salted grape leaves, light notes of resin and solvent, vanilla ,.
    • Taste
Thick, powerful, lacquer-candy, a wave of red pepper, ginger candied fruits, resin, citrus confiture, a bit bitterishness of the young bark.
    • Finish
Soft, warming, oily, slightly astringent, astringent oak, candy drops, orange peel in syrup, vanilla, light pitch notes, mint, eucalyptus, a little honey-floral tones, in development it becomes more fresh, light; weak shades of needles and salt.

  7. St. Pauli scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

    A top notch blended grain.
    • Nose
Grain in it's full glory: glue, vanilla, polished wood, car wash, old leather. Then, banana custard, stewed apricot and cinnamon pastry.
    • Taste
Full-bodied, coating, and syrupy. It's soft, with a nice grain feel of sugars, polished oak, different sorts of custard (vanilla, banana), whipped cream, old chesterfields, and danish pastry.
    • Finish
Long, with nice acidity, low bitterness, and a lot of creamy and sugary sensations. Along with that is a full dose of polished old furniture (again those chesterfields).

Golden Grain 51 yo 1964 (51%, Cooper’s Choice 2016, fresh bourbon cask #1307, 240 btl.)Nose: a little flatter, it’s slightly less emphatic and aromatic. When nosed after one of the others, you can’t seem to pick up much. When trying them the other way round, it is always overtaken by the next one. Nonetheless it has the same aromas: vanilla, polished wood, including a hint of glue. Warm leather. Hints of women’s powder. Mouth: perhaps a little fruitier than the first one, but differences are small. Peaches, apples, berries. Hints of cigar boxes. Peppery notes. Brown sugar and caramelized almonds. Finish: medium long, smooth and sweet. This one seems a little less emphatic. That’s not an advantage on the nose (at least not in a direct comparison) but it also means it’s even smoother, rounder in the mouth. I prefer the 50yo but they’re close together. Around € 230.Score: 90/100
