  1. ASWhisky scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

    complex and very interesting
    • Nose
Immediately after pouring without movement a slight tart note, wood smoke, leather - direction old shoe sole, lemon and licorice, soft toffee, fruit mix fermented in the old wooden barrel
after a while, with movement maritime, smoky, sourish fish, old shoes, lemon, sherry notes in the background, sweet raisins, mashmallows, liquorice but also notes of glue and honey, very clear wood, even slight floral notes, vanilla for all flavors a fishy wood smoke
    • Taste
sweet oily onset, sweet soft toffee / caramel with wood smoke, some glue, hot on the tongue, mint oil, a lot of liquorice, a bit musty like gammeliges wooden barrel the old wooden slats from the barrel stick smoky on my palate Noface83 wrote: "warm ashes take the whole mouth and glow" which is the same with me at the first sip
    • Finish
long Uwe's cigar box on the finish, brined liquorice, sweet chewing tobacco You can taste it for a long time, the tobacco is always sweeter

  2. Archer scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

I like it very much, especially the interplay of smoke and fruit (essentially lemon). Undiluted is the motto, so comes the whisky to its full advantage.
    • Nose
Spicy, slightly greasy smoke. Smokey at first, but working with time, it gets more intense. Spicy with Maggie herb, curry, pepper. Ginger. Salmiakpastillen. Bright tropical fruits, mango and papaya, fermentation has already started. Smoked lemon. Wood.
    • Taste
Creamy and smoky onset. Phenolic. Smoked ham. Will dry very quickly. Smoked lemon also on the tongue. The smoke content lays on the tongue once again a shovel on it. Seaweed comes through, salt to it. Marine associations crowd up. Dark chocolate, with the high cocoa content At first spicy like the nose, then come herbaceous herbs, which mix with the smoke and lemon. Liquorice wheels.
    • Finish
Medium-long and dry, with oak and lightly roasted herbs, licorice, ginger and lemon drops. Still really smoky.

  3. Bowmore Axel scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Nice smoked ham nose, marine aroma and slightly medicinal.

Nice and salty in the mouth, pleasantly smoky, somewhat fruity with strong but well integrated alcohol. Salty, smoky, long finish. The longer the bottle is open, the more I like it. Significantly better than most bottlings after 2008.

Old Uigeadails are some of my favorite whiskies that routinely appear in auctions. I've finished bottles of L3 and L4 in the past, and I absolutely love them. Now it's time for the L5. How does it compare? Same! Love it also! The L3 and L4 command a premium in terms of cost because those are the first ones, but I have to say, the L5 is just as good (from a freshly opened bottle). No reason to chase the earlier ones, guys! In fact, I heard L6 and L7 are terrific also. Obviously, what is not said is that all of these have 70's Ardbeg mixed in.
