This Springbank I find more difficult than the 10yo and the 12yo CS. It needs so much patience and precise measure of water to get access to the 15 years of maturation. But that extra effort brings out a beautiful whisky, singular, rewarding.

Heavy. Savoury (?) wood. 70% chocolate. Red overripe fruit.
With water it is more fresh and fruity, no more overripe fruits. The fruits are of the citrus kind, not red. Creamy milk chocolate. Spicy.

The arrival is complex; sweet, sour, bitter, savoury and slightly salty. But no defined clear tastes. The development is multifacetted, red fruits, citrus fruits. Strange sweet bitterness or bitter sweetness.
With water the arrival is soft and full. Long, long development of all that a basket full of juicy ripe citrus fruits can bring.

Long finish. It really lingers. It is slightly dry fruit and a little warm, dry smoke.

Nose: Fresh rubber tyres, still with those little rubber strands on, musty cellar smell, damp.

Palate: There’s the smoke! A rich heavy smoke from some seasoned firewood, rich oakyness on the palate too, slight zip of lemon zest in there as well.

Finish: Play that funky music Springbank! Like licking a bike tyre! a freshly varnished oak shelf lingering at the back there.

Well balanced, multi-layered, elegant with slightly delicate sherry notes and restrained spice. Here, too, the alcohol content fits perfectly - 04/01/2014
    • Nose
Slightly musty and leathery, sea air, fishing boat on the beach, salty skin, slightly smoky, candied nuts, hazelnut, white nougat, panettone, cotton candy, raspberry
    • Taste
Sweet, strong, again gently smoky, slightly spicy, blackberry, at the end this intense, spicy-sweet honey note remains
    • Finish
      Medium length
