    S 5
An above-average sherry casked whisky but not a superb one, given the price. The complexity didn't carry through to the finish. Also, can be hard to recognise the "Springbank" notes in a blind tasting.

    N 26
    Oaky
    Raspberry chocolate
    Solid yet gentle Sherry note
    Quite some honey
More tropical fruit when left to breathe

    P 24
    Tropical fruit (mango, etc)
    Wood spice (pepper)
    Touch of herb
    Mildly peated

    F 24
Mid, dry, earthy finish with a mildly peated mouthfeel
Touch more peated when left to breathe
Hint of coastal note up and gone
    Malty
    Chilli and peppery
    Dried fruit sweetness lingering

  5. Calmar scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Excellent aroma, light, but very saturated with shades and half-tones, a wide palette of derivatives; the taste / finish is simpler, but very pleasant and open, a lot of dry herbs, very much like the Highland Park style, on the whole rather dry and austere.
    • Nose
Open, dry, first nose - leather goods, mineral-metallic notes; spicy woody tones, old furniture, dried fruits - dried apricots, raisins, figs; dry herbs, sweet creamy shades - boiled condensed milk, fudge, toffee; some deep-frying oil, fried vegetables, milk chocolate, cappuccino, shortcrust pastry, some camphor and resin, coated tablets.
    • Taste
Calm, rich, spicy oak notes, creamy sweetness, bark astringency, dry medicinal herbs, mineral-metallic tones, cappuccino, chocolate, pipe tobacco, ash.
    • Finish
Soft, refreshing, delicate notes of oak, bark, light smoky aftertaste, ash, minerality, dry herbs, cappuccino, tobacco leaf.

Springbank 15, 46%. Consumed Oct 2019. Aroma is huge coal gas, paraffin lamp, stove, crystalline notes behind all of that, touch of ginger sweets, Foxes fruits boiled sweets. Interesting. Fairly muted. Taste is quite muddled with fruit and biscuit cancelling each other out, more of that slight coal gas vibe, thin squash and coal gas, faint chilli and rockpool vibes, touch of burnt egg but all sitting behind that semi fruity edge. It's ok ... quite interesting ... but there's something not quite right. 3.3/79

An absolutely typical Springbank bottling. Not sanded smooth, but with tasty corners and edges.
    • Nose
      90 90
Mineral, salty, with a dash of sherry. Raisins, figs, orange peel zest. Maritime, salty wind that sweeps over the dunes. Sweet and spicy at the same time.
    • Taste
      88 88
A grip in the candy jar at the corner shop: sweet and fruity with raspberries, strawberries, cherries. At the same time, however, a note of warm machine oil, underlined by damp pebbles and toffee.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium to long, pure, clear, mildly spicy and with a hint of the Springbank dirt.

  11. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

The incredibly fast start brings a bonus point, otherwise a tasty, not too complex, dram, thumbs up
    • Nose
sweet, fruity, waxy, mandarins, a little dark chocolate, slightly woody, pepper, goulash, yes really a bit meaty, then also creamy and slightly tart fruit, vanilla, green apple,
    • Taste
Direct start, very sweet, here rather sweet oranges, slightly tart, oak, nice sweetness, nice acidity, a bit dark, but the orange dominates, pepper, only a touch, a whisky was rarely there so quickly
    • Finish
now it's going to be tangerines again, sweeter, but then a bit tart tangerine skin, nuts, very pleasant, then also a little vanilla on the back, nowhere the goulash from the nose ;-)

In all these years, I did never come across a bad bottling of Springbank. The 15-year-old expression is more sherried, and surprisingly peaty compared to its younger brother. On the nose, you get smoked salmon, confectionery and pipe tobacco. Hints of damp earth, cough syrup and parsley linger in the back. The taste is strong, austere and a bit fizzy with fresh ginger, orange peel and mineral peat smoke. Almost like a distant dream of Islay, whispering farewell in its long and slightly dry finish. Altogether, this is a rewarding Single Malt and a great value!

Thanks to Healthy Good for a sample of this nice dram.
    • Nose
Nice Springbank nose, with that farmy touch.

More savoury rich on sweet fruit than others I've tried lately.

A hint of that "burnt electronic" I find in the 12CS, but not as articulated. This is more on burnt out matches and earthy peat.

Mature cigar and some underlying fat nuttynness.
    • Taste
Much more upfront on the peat compared to the nose.

Herbal. Salt. Right amount of spice and suitable abv.

Bold on cigar/tobacco leaf, with a touch of fresh orange citrus.
    • Finish
Peat hangs in there to the slightly bitter drying end. Quite long, lingering on cigar leaf and realy dark chocolate.

    Tasty, but spicy.
    • Nose
Fruity straw, malt, oak, some alcohol.

Pretty sharp. Apple, hay, oak, honey.
    • Finish
      Medium long, hay and honey.

  28. Kumachan scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A springbank balanced and without major flaw, but as I like to look for the little beast, superb lemony and complex nose but clear and diffuse mouth .... If it had to be given a subjective note, it would be a 86.
    • Nose
Lemon-yellow color, fine tears, slow and irregular. The taste on the palm offers salt, smoked peat and lemon zest. Very light smoked peat on the nose, ashes. Superb acidic freshness of lemon berlingot, squeezed lemon juice. Caramel, white chocolate and bitter orange marmalade follow. A certain and distant marine sensation on salt, rock, earth and metal. A perfume? Issey Miyake!
    • Taste
The palate is tender on acacia honey, sweet and light smoked peat, powdery and chalky. Vanilla and lemon zest. Metal and liquorice have a small place. End of marine and saline mouth.
    • Finish
The finish extends at length on smoked peat, salt and vegetable bitterness. The empty glass sighs the grilled citrus fruits.

More exciting than the 18yo. The older age (10yo) is very compatible with the greater sherry influence, I think.
    • Nose
Freshly lit match, algae (there are in the Japanese, Watame I believe), sweet apple, sour apple juice, gravel, pizza dough
    • Taste
Less spice than in 18yo, softer, significantly more sherry than in 18yo, less salt; Mustard, fresh apple, Tang.
    • Finish
Salt, intense Olorosot, together the plum and walnut in salted caramel, once again intense sherry, stays long.

An absolutely soft Springbank, without the corners and edges of the 10-year-old, even without its liveliness and nervousness - calm, oily, heavy - but it also has less tension.
Nice, I like it much better, even if it has little fruit in the taste. Nut and chocolate are directing here. And of course the Springbank grades Machine Oil + Smoke.
    • Nose
heavy machine oil, smoke, mandarin, grape nut chocolate
    • Taste
oily, heavy, soft, the tangerine from the nose is now almost gone, nut mixture, walnut, Brazil nut, hazelnut, walnut oil, a lot of dark chocolate, smoke
    • Finish
medium length, smoke, walnut oil and dark chocolate, harmonious

    91/100
    • Nose
this is for the new version with the new label:

just have had the new tenner so this is a head to head comparison.

reminds me  a bit of the 12 c.s. as this one´s sootier with a little more sherry influence. the peat is stronger than in the tenner´s nose. it´s really a pity I have no 12c.s.open as I´d really be interested if they are really that similar. slightly tarry and leathery, wet earth, rotting leaves, lemons and salt.

cannot get any of serge´s sardines.
    • Taste
now, I´m repeating myself but had I tasted it blind I had sworn this is a twelver c.s.. just a lighter version because of the lower ABV.
no reason to complain but I had been looking forward to something different.
    • Finish
      long, very long, salty, lemony

    • Nose
Honey, a lot of nut flavors. Also something dirtier, earthier, about cowshed and farm pull one through the nostrils. Like a cow dung sprinkled with cinnamon. A full, fat and rich 15 y old jumper. But even here you realize that Bourbon barrels are in the game. He is not a sherry.
    • Taste
oily, lumbering, raisins, also a bit tarry or smoky. , Great mouthfeel. No stinging alcohol influence noticeable It takes a little longer until it makes itself felt on the tongue. In the tasting but surprisingly restrained
    • Finish
Here you can notice the slightly medical Tatsch the Springer. Finish: Medium long, no burning sensation in the esophagus.

Springbank 15 old vs. New Colour:

    Both identical bright amber

    Nose:

The new 15 is very red-fruity sherry-heavy and somewhat exotic, wonderfully greasy smoke with beautiful sharpness, spicy herbs, savory sweetness, some medical notes at the very back.
The old 15 comes significantly milder in the nose, there are no peppery notes of smoke, here comes through the fruity-sweet Bourbon, much pear, ripe apple, some rancid olive oil, soft water to honey.

The new is clearly jagged in the nose, the old something is missing here the oomph, but he presents himself more complaisant, round ... where the new already neatly demands to dissect the flavors.

    Taste:

The old comes beautifully sweet-oily in the mouth, light pepper notes on the edges of the tongue, then creamy pear, slowly slide into the bitterness, pelle of half-ripe mirabelle, strong espresso, no, Greek mocha.
The new is almost sweeter on the tongue, again red fruit, sour cherry, currant, Acai, to the smoked bacon glazed with honey, pepper only in the back of the cheeks, a hint of bitter choco.

The old man is almost too harmless, soft and sweet. The new shows itself from the best Springer side: greasy peat, juicy fruit in great harmony.

    finish:

The old man is very bitter, a lot of men's chocolate, a little sweet, medium long.
The new is sweet and fruity with coffee notes, medium long.

    Conclusion:

The old 15er is not a bad whisky, but here Springbank has saved on the peat of the malt, he just has too little Pepp. The new is a flatterer with neat corners and edges. Lots of fruit and sweetness through the sherry portion, to the smoked bacon.

    Age 15's: 82 pts.
    New 15er: 85 pts.

    WHISKYDREAM.de writes: Springbank 15 years
Color: bright amber. The nose is dominated by vanilla sweetness with fresh ripe fruit. Alcoholic-clear. Lightning-like flavors of plum and melon are added. (86)
Biting in the mouth sharpness with sweet vanilla. Then this turns into sweet-dry oak. A full-bodied, powerful taste. No filigree whisky, but a macho! (88)
The medium to long finish is less spectacular, but still pleases especially with sweet oak. (87)

Alcoholic compote. A lot of pickled plums and some apples. Further, some essential oils (slightly "cold"). Maybe an exotic hint, premature peaches combined with hints of lemon and grass? Disinfectant, hints of strong and dry wine from barrique barrels.
    • Taste
Oily mouth feeling. Yellow fruits with an exotic touch (pineapple), hints of wheat and apples. Dark chocolate powder. Only slightly sweet. Somehow unique. The wild character of Springbank became softer. Some salt.

Smells very similar to the new Kilkerran 12 so its a good start.

Some mild peat and candied fruits and peels with a little barley sugar.

      Pineapple springs to mind
    • Taste

Trademark sulfur, nail polish coating with burnt plastic and forest
fire smokes. Rich and squashy roasted pumpkin drifting with bitter
chocolate at the back. With splash of water, nutty and nose heating peat
emerged. Delicious juicy grapefruit. Deep and demanding nose with
finesse and care. Well structure with unbendable style.

P- Ale bitterness, leather and oily sweet malt, touch of umami and savoury. A hint of intriguing decay mushy wood. Complex.

F- Creamy and smooth. Burnt leather smokes run the long distants.

This one is clearly a drier one than the OB's of the core-range. Somehow I like the sweeter ones better, the sweetness suits the basic profile, making it deeper.
    • Nose
Applehut, toffee, a mild smoke, and somewhat savoury. With time a pleasant sweetness comes through. Some wax, sweet maltiness and a light appleseed.
    • Taste

Really lovely whisky, but it's neither a peat-monster nor a sherry-bomb. It's uniquely Springbank, with all that it entails.Nose: peat, dried fruits, spongecake, whiff of cigar, a bit of Springbank's funkiness, hint of manure, no sulfur at all.Taste: quite similar, but perhaps a hint of orange in the background. It is rather thin though.
    Finish: long and quite warm.

Price is however an issue, at least here in Denmark, it's just too expensive for what it is.

The sherry influence is clearly to smell, it smells simple, pure, no frills. The onset is fierce, aromatic, fine blend of oak and sherry, raisins, spicy. Light vanilla scents come through, it smells soft, tastes strong. Nice malt, but the 10's had more!

This Springbank is a rich and multi-layered malt full of delicate
sherry flavours, spice, dried fruits and lingering chocolate notes. Very
well balanced, nicely oily with a dash of salt. An exceptional and
appealing dram best enjoyed after dinner in front of an open fire.

I thank the German importer Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG for the sample!

    • Nose
The nose starts off with delicate sherry flavours, Demerara sugar,
toffee and almonds. Subtle fruity notes of pineapple and passion fruit
mingle with lingering cinnamon and a whiff of smoke and salt in the
back. Quite oily, rich and very pleasant.
    • Taste
Full and rich on the palate. Creamy sherry aromas and exotic fruit notes
are complemented by intense spices - oak, cinnamon, crystallised
ginger, and white pepper. Raisins, dark chocolate, and fine marzipan
linger towards the warm finish. Amazing!
    • Finish
A fairly long finish with a gentle warmth. Crisp oak and sherry flavours
sustain and mingle with delicate cinnamon and a touch of leather.

WITH WATER: Lively, quite vibrant on the nose with sherry, toffee, oak,
cinnamon and a delicate fruity sweetness with a touch of smoke. Bold and
intense on the palate with lots of sherry flavours and a warm and
delicious mix of various spices - oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, Demerara sugar
and pepper. The finish is long, sweet and warm with a delicate cinnamon
      note on the tail.

Can not really show off its peatiness in the nose, but the smoke is fully absorbed in the finish and blends in well with the fruity sherry flavor
    • Nose
First strong sherry, with apple, vanilla, a sea breeze like an Islay malt, but hardly any smoke, later creamy, pears and Brazil nuts
    • Taste
sweet and full, now comes the smoke, neat start
    • Finish
spicy, less sweet than in the mouth, lasts quite long and leaves a warming impression of smoke and sherry

This is a big chewy, leathery whisky, great for autumn evenings.
    • Nose
Leather. Vegetal peat. Mossy rocks. Leafy wood smoke. Caramel pudding. Oranges. Allspice. Lemon zest. Hints of sherry wood.
    • Taste
Brown sugar. Stewed apricots. Leather. Butterscotch. Dry woody note. Dried fruit roll.
    • Finish
Long. Spicy, dry wood note on the tongue with a deep leathery, fruity note all the way down the throat.

I have heard and read a lot of praise for the Springbanks and I have not been disappointed! A convincing, multi-layered and well-balanced whisky with rough edges, which has a wonderful maritime flavor and reaches the right taste! I definitely want more from that! My wishlist is getting longer and longer. And longer...
    • Nose
First, clearly and wonderfully choppy sea and salt - I can feel the spray and hear the crashing waves and the screaming gulls - in addition to caramel, vanilla, oiled wood, fresh flaxseed, sherry, above all a nice mild, not too dominant smoke
    • Taste
Strong! And a really peppery piquancy, pear, cherry, oak, very slightly smoke
    • Finish
At first, sweet sherry and bitter oak predominate, then there is some smoke left and it lingers for a long time.

More farming comparing to the younger versions. Craft presentation by its own, for my taste to spicy with a tipsy bitterness lingering around the corner.

    Concerning price/performance ratio: 7/10
    • Nose
Smoke, unripe green apple, gras, lemon, iodine, salted fudge, some "farming" smell is going on.
    • Taste
The farming smell/taste keeps on going, pepper, some smoke, salt, spicy.
    • Finish
Medium. Some herbals with a kind of bitterness.

honest, robust and strong (for 46%) whisky, which the barrel has given in 15 years well flavor, but nothing in character, good PLV (50-55 €)
    • Nose

    • Taste

The caramel note is a little strong for my taste but overall it is a great whisky. The finish balances that note and makes it well rounded
    • Nose
Lightly smoky, with a sherry note. Maritime. Light tropical fruits. A tad briny. Salted Caramel and toffee. Water brings some camphor.
    • Taste
Sweet and spicy, with some caramel taste.
    • Finish
Caramel and oak aftertaste. Long, with some peppery spices developing with time. A light sweetness lingers for a while.

  85. irrerelevant scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

very round, sweet, dry sherry in beginnings, light, soft, barely to feel alcohol, salty caramel, somewhat maritime, strong onset, dries off easily, salt, exotic fruit, caraway fennel anise tea, orange juice, behind it a slight smoky note , Much fruity, restrained and sweeter than the rest of the Springbank range, I like it very much, better than the 18s

  86. Corso_theRed scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

The nose reminds me of a slightly peaty Clynelish 14yo. Predominantly
matured in ex-Bourbon casks I reckon. Overall, this is quite a treat. It
is affordable, interesting enough for revisits, and presented in true
craft presentation. What’s not to like?
    • Nose
There it is again, this buttery and creamy peat smoke. Glazed hazelnuts,
rum-infused cherries, and a little sawdust. Fruits emerge. Applejuice,
      figs, and bees wax.
    • Taste
Smooth at first, then quickly ramping up the spiciness. More sweet than
sour, but vividly fresh throughout. Mint chocolate, with very little
smoke remaining now. Sweet herbal liqueur and oak spice.
    • Finish
Medium-long. Very warming, syrupy, with well-balanced oak tannins. In other words, appropriate for a 15yo.

    Tasted head-to-head with 10yo and 2000 vintage

I don't know what to think. I find is a bit too gentle of a dram. certainly there is a great complextion but it feels veiled. I find the nose rather disappointing. It is just too descreet and with water completely disappears. The palate is very balanced, elegant. SGP: 364I give it an extra point for complexity.
    • Nose
sweet but with more grassy notes then the 10yo - burned sweet grass. Less peat then the 10yo. Hints of vanilla icing sugar. Turkish delight with pistachio. The nose keeps on developing.

water: hello! anybody there? some slight hint of vanilla, and a very distant farmy note. yeast? Honestly, I could be making it up, it is just so descrete at this point. mineral profile. at the bottom of the glass - very bitter herbs (cypress fruits)
    • Taste
Quite different from 10yo. Starts a bit sour and bitter, then becomes sweet. Nicely drying on the tongue. I'd say it is a bit thinner actually, although passed that initial feeling, the alcohol bites.

w: more sweetness perhaps. It keeps the good body.

Longer period of maturation in this case surely acts in Springbank's favour. Thus, it brings more depth, supplements the intensity of the whisky, refines it, ennobles its character so to speak.

I really do not know much about the rating. Beginning as a partisan, the scent sat down, the taste was lagging behind the bouquet, but it was nothing terrible, the flavor seemed to be the weakest part of the chain, but the influence of the sulfur after a few minutes testified to me the tasting. Someone does not suffer, I like it, but I can comfort myself. The resultant points are therefore only the arithmetic mean of a great bouquet, a decent taste, a weaker reverberation, and an outright negative second reverberation. So 84b, but I would not want to drink again this again. I would wonder if this impression was needed in the WhiskyFestival, anybody else, but I can not help it, this is a disappointment for me.
    • Nose
Belgian pralines, a combination of sweet chocolate and sherry, a nice alcohol veil, chocolate raisins. It works fully, robustly, I praise you.
    • Taste
I put it on my tongue and I get to know the typical sherry style, dry chocolate, which gradually turns into spiciness (clove, cinnamon). The message of medium, woody spice, bitter bitterness. My enthusiasm that came on after graduation gradually fades away worse. There comes a second wave after a few minutes, and it's here - a scarecrow named sulfur, yes, the longer the tasting, the more I'm sure, the coating on the tongue and the floor, the unpleasant tail, a sulphurous odor. Not as brutal as I once had seen at Dalwhinnie from my colleague at work, but it is here.
