  1. Totoro scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Compared with current blends, this one has a refreshingly light color. Unlike the modern Chivas Regal, it's very light on the sherry.

Nicely integrated older grain notes (more varnish than glue), honeyed sweetness, fudge, as well as some softer fruity and floral aromas. You can tell this is old, though whether that's OBF or older whiskies in the vatting, I for one can't tell.

Very convincing on the palate. Sure, it's soft at 43 percent and somewhat "smoothed-out" by the grain components, but there also appear to be some substantially older malts in the mix. I recommend taking larger sips and leaving them to rest in the mouth for a while longer than would be your first intuition, as this really unlocks the oak and provides more depth to the palate. Creamy, sweet, and unabashedly "Speyside" with just the faintest idea of smoke in the background.
    • Finish
      84 84
A bit of oak spice, soft acidity and some grain bitterness.
