Compared with current blends, this one has a refreshingly light color. Unlike the modern Chivas Regal, it's very light on the sherry.

Nicely integrated older grain notes (more varnish than glue), honeyed sweetness, fudge, as well as some softer fruity and floral aromas. You can tell this is old, though whether that's OBF or older whiskies in the vatting, I for one can't tell.
    • Taste
      86 86
Very convincing on the palate. Sure, it's soft at 43 percent and somewhat "smoothed-out" by the grain components, but there also appear to be some substantially older malts in the mix. I recommend taking larger sips and leaving them to rest in the mouth for a while longer than would be your first intuition, as this really unlocks the oak and provides more depth to the palate. Creamy, sweet, and unabashedly "Speyside" with just the faintest idea of smoke in the background.
    • Finish
      84 84
A bit of oak spice, soft acidity and some grain bitterness.

Whenever there is an older version of a modern blend, you can always trust in the old ones. Not necessarily the older the better, but such a supermarket item can easily beat their younger pals, even some modern single malts.
    • Nose
      83 83
Certainly better than the modern one, this bottle came with a more vivid nose. Milk chocolate, orange zest, green banana, dried flowers, apricot and honey.
    • Taste
      83 83
Now the palate was even multiple tiers superior. Rounder, heavier (body) and smoother, this one delivered with some tropical fruit, dried fruits, dates, moss, less spiky spices, toffee, and earl grey.
    • Finish
      82 82
A slightly longer finish than the modern one, more malty, fragrant (rose pedal, dried fruit, dried ginger)

a really great complex blend. Not a bit alcoholic.
Today's bottlings of this blend can't keep up by far. The 3% more alcohol makes a difference.
Very nice profile of sweetness and fruit. Delicious!

One thing to remember with older blends from the 1950`s onwards is that many of them have a slightly different flavour profile than todays offerings with the same name. The reason for this is that older blends contain whiskies from distilleries that are now closed, older Chivas Regal is no exception, this will have some Caperdonich in it.

Very nice surprise in the final! Enthusiasm: Nose and Mouth 3/5 Final: 4/5 Whiskey n ° 1432
    • Nose
Slight note of cardboard and ether but which mixes with vanilla pleasantly, after all. The result is sympathetically retro. We also have cut apple and, later, caramel.
    • Taste
Honest, creamy, no notorious defect, if not a little lack of relief. We find the OBE side of the nose.
    • Finish
      Intense ! On the toffee.

Nose, malt, sweet spices, light woody, a little floral
    • Nose
creamy, vanilla, a little salty, spicy-peppery, a little rubber.
    • Finish
a taste of "old" having nothing to do with the Chivas of today, like what the reserves did not evolve in the good sense.
