On the nose, candied fruits, macerated, sherry, sodden wood, return of alcohol (tingling of nostril), then dark chocolate appears!
    • Nose
      89 89
      rum !!!!!
Oh no, heck, a kavalan sherry, with candied fruit, macerated, soaked wood, spices and more fruit with grape and characteristic mold, a little glue.
    • Taste
      88 88
the alcohol anyway, then the strong, peppery spices, then the grapes again, the sodden wood now, and dark chocolate or coffee too!
    • Finish
      88 88
      long on the same flavors.

good, but also deviating from the basic standard values, resulting in a lower score.

kind of cool - very productive, but actually no whisky more for me and the fascination flattens quickly. The dram was delicious - that's all I need.
    • Nose
sweet, soft, vanilla, toffee, very creamy, lush sweet notes of wine, but also noticeable tannins
    • Taste
About sherry - reduced, concentrated, berries, vanilla, glue, toffee, rum grape nut chocolate - very creamy - toasted, dry bitter, tobacco
    • Finish
full-bodied, mint, again rum grape nut - to berries and cream liqueur - medium creamy - and then long woody

Nose on cocoa and coffee, with a hint of caramel and prune, blackberry, we do not find the usual strong polish side on the Solist. In the mouth the alcohol is very well integrated. There is the bitterness of coffee and bitter cocoa. Long finish on coffee and caramel. Not a big complexity but lovers of sherry monsters will enjoy with pleasure this caffeine bomb. Personally I really appreciate this type of profile a bit extreme.

He needs time, he needs warmth, but then he remains oversherried, but the cavalcade has not been beaten to the point beyond recognition. I'm not necessarily the best friend of the sherry monster, but I like it very much.
    • Nose
Sherry, glue and roasted aromas, it's completely dehydrated! On the fruity side there are some dried bananas and maybe a few figs. An idea sulfur can be found. With a little barrel acid it forms a somewhat sticky mass. After a long time a few ripe yellow fruits, mainly peaches and even some glucose. He likes heat, he is now more pleasing, less acid, dark caramel, vanilla and the aromas are now a harmonious whole.
    • Taste
In the mouth it is similarly harmonious with lots of sweetness, clear barrel acid and behind a powerful tannin attack. Very strong in the beginning and oily thick. The alcohol is well integrated.
    • Finish
The finish is quite long, very tannin-like initially, but is always sweeter. He warms up vigorously.

  7. aphex scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

The bottle has been opened for a while and it's still as punchy, oaky and tasty as before. A huge sherry bomb.
    • Nose
Rich and heavy sherry nose. Lots of fruits dried or candied. Prunes, plums, figs. Spices and oak. Whiffs of vanilla. Balsamic vinegar.
    • Taste
Punchy and heavy again. Fruits and oak dancing in tandem. Oranges, plums, dark raisins, dark chocolate.
    • Finish
      Long, oak, chocolate, drying.

Sherry, baked wine, strawberry jam, blackberries. Prunes. Cooler notes too, like mint. With water, toffee. In the mouth, we find these sensations. Very good alcoholic integration. A sulfur note. With water, it loses significantly corpulence without sacrificing aromas. Final long but not intense - proportionally - on black fruits.

    Enthusiasm 4/5

Wow! I guess that there are a lot of pro and con sayers where I really say that it I love this one. If I would have got this blind I would have said that it is no whisky more likely a very well done plum liquor (or similar) with much less alcohol than 57% as the alcohol is really good implemented. For me between 71984 & 84627 the one that I liked the most! Nevertheless I do not know if I want to have a whisky like this every day. For this experiment it was really nice to have him in the glass
    • Nose
Wow!!!! I had WIDs 71984 & 84627 before in the glass which are both 5 years of maturiy where this has 8!To be honest it is no more smelling like whisky more than a very sweet liquor. I like it but I assume that there might be people saying that this is no more whisky!
    • Taste
A sherry bomb same as 71984 & 84627 but it is really much more influenced of the cask. The oranges, plums, raisins, whatever sherry fruits are really more dominant and very powerful
    • Finish
A lot of cocoa powder and less woody. Very very nice :-)

  10. tomy63 scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

very black, nose not too varnished for a Solist, lots of fruits, prune, plums, figs, dates, oriental wood. Powerful in the mouth but well integrated alcohol. Wood scarcely marked on the final. Excellent Solist, a little better than those I've tasted so far (the S060710004, the 5cl and the 20cl LMDW)
