I think we fell in the same trap, expecting way too much from the wonderful nose.
All in all not bad, but now that I know I will not be that eager in my search.
I think you can find just about anything and everything in this nose.
Red fruit, yellow fruit, varnished wood, caramel, honey, spice, a hint of citrus and even notes that could come from whiskey without the "e".
Probably the most complex bourbon I've ever put my nose to, and it's pleasant too.
And then WTF happened?
The complexity of the nose is nowhere to be found in the taste.
It went from expectations of something fabulous to a lightly spicy caramel liqueur.
There's really not much more, peppery spice and sweet caramel.
It picks up a tiny bit in the finish as there are some sweet fruity notes after the spice have faded.
