  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Quite a deviation from the moderately sherried OB Mortlachs. This one is heavy and unapologetic, but just right for me.
    • Nose
Smoked herbs, ink, grassiness, and tannins. Strong muscat and dried dill. A really curious and unique nose that has only a few markers in common to the OB 16yo. The blackest overstewed tea, dry oak, and resinous sherry with cocoa powder. With water, a buttery fattiness emerges.
    • Taste
Oh hey, the Mortlach all natural sulfur is here in all its dirty glory. Mind you, not cask sulfur, but that funky note people usually identify Mortlach by, although in my experience it's just as often there as not. Metallic, strongly sappy, and slightly tarry sherry, cigar leaves, grass, brass, muscat, and cloves. Ink, pencils, graphite, sugar, chalk. It is a bit sulfury and rubbery too, but even though I've just listed a bunch of descriptors I usually don't like, here they work together to make an unlikely, bold and hard hitting dram.
    • Finish
Long lasting licorice, with pencils, graphite, and herbs. I... I shouldn't like this... but I do. A lot. Take your 89 points and go, you pervert of a dram, you.
