Inspired by Robert Burns' poem 'To a Mouse', Timorous Beastie is a Highland Blended Malt of Blair Athol, Glengoyne, Dalmore and Glen Garioch. A bit off-putting at first, the nose unfolds with butterscotch and intense floral notes before heather honey, citrus fruits and juniper start to emerge. The taste is surprisingly spicy and gingery, featuring mashed berries, creamy vanilla and a touch of eucalyptus. This little fellow is not shy at all! Fading with milky cereals, licorice and hints of sweet malt, the finish turns slightly dry and nutty. Not bad, I would say.

Very nice "all-day-dram". A great blend, which has a top price-performance ratio.

On the nose, spices, a hint of smoke, mixed yellow orange fruit! In the mouth, vanilla, sweet spices, sweet candied orange fruits and a little lemon, some soft wood, cocoa and always a trace of smoke! In the end, same aromas, but it's relatively short! A blend with 4 distilleries on the counter, a nice bottle, but scents already seen and reviewed, we remain in the universe aseptic blend!

A blend and NAS, that's not very promising. But I have to say that I like it.
    • Nose
Creamy and fruity. Peach, custard, apple. Young but not overly blend-like.
    • Taste
More clearly a blend. Apple, peach, caramel, nuts, pepper and a little smoke.
    • Finish
More nutty. Custard, apple and still a bit peppery.

Not bad at all I believe, although I can think of plenty with blends that are much cheaper and with higher quality. But a good nose and flavors in this one despite the rawness.

    • Nose
Some young spirit is really distinct when first nosing, but there are flavors beneath the rather raw presentation. Lets see what can be found. Breakfast cereal, bread and paper but also citrus, yeast and honey. After a while some soft hints of peanut butter and dried fruit are coming through.
    • Taste
The arrival is soft and sweet, with spices and mint appearing in the development. It continues with some perfumed wood (cedar?), honey and maple syrup and at the same time quite substantial, oily and mouth filling. The peanuts are still there.
    • Finish
The finish is really short and dry with black pepper, dry honey, vanilla and ginger. It's definitely a bit raw on the finish.

This is a very light and sweet whisky. It’s a bit thin and watery on the palate (despite the 46.8%). Adding water to this dram does not really work for me and makes the weak palate even weaker. The nose becomes a bit fruitier and even sweeter.

All in all it’s a nice summery dram to sip mindlessly although it’s quite steeply priced for the quality you get.

    • Nose
A fresh, sweet and young whisky with aromas of hay, honey, grass, floral tones (heather), fainth sherry, subtle dried fruits (sultana and plum), apple, berries, pear, caramel, icing sugar, grain, subtle citrus tones, solvents and subtle oak.
    • Taste
A young, vibrant, sweet and fresh whisky with aromas of honey, sugar, caramel, nuts, hay, grass, butter, green apples, a hint of beeswax, subtle spices, floral tones, pepper, subtle aniseed, hint of bitter cocoa powder and a little oak.
    • Finish
A shot to medium and sweet finish with aromas of honey, fudge, grain, toffee, subtle spices and a faint hint of oak.
