  1. St. Pauli Plus scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A solid old dram from the past, with a considerable share of maturation in ex sherry casks (but certainly not entirely). The nose is the best part, yet it is drying tin the mouth. It's as coastal as Laphroaig can get but fails a bit of finesse to be an outstanding whisky.
    • Nose
      88 88
Brine, iodine, seaweed, black tea, black olives, mineral (pebbles), dried apricot, even a hint of raisin or leather. Probably it was partly sherry matured.
    • Taste
      85 85
Powerful, thin/oily mouthfeel, focussing on the coastal side: tarry rope, shellfish, ash, charcoal smoke, iodine, green olives (the slightly bitter ones), but also a hint of the fruit. Some ginger pops up.
    • Finish
      84 84
Rather smoky and spicy/drying: pepper, ginger, charcoal smoke, kipper, marzipan, mixed olives.
