I had forgotten how complex this is, behind the immediate in-yer-face smokiness and “medicinal” flavours.
Characterful, intriguing and very good. Need to try a fresh bottle. This one was opened a year or 2 ago - not sure when - and has just 1 inch left so probably quite oxidised
    • Nose
Upfront peat smoke, bandages, cointreau and spice behind, aniseed, sea spray, wood
    • Taste
Big, chewy smokiness lifted by aniseed and spice
    • Finish
Rich, slightly sweet, smoky and lingering

Beautiful balance of tropical fruit and medicinal peat, with a satisfying viscosity even at 43%

  4. Suevia scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Smoke & peat, some grapefruit, almonds, a touch of mercurochrome
    • Taste
packs a solid punch despite the low abv. Very ashy, citrusy, salty. Good mouthfeel.
    • Finish
long, salty and on citrus fruits.

Apparently, labels of this circa of Laphroaig 10 were slapped on in a rather ad hoc fashion. Some authentic bottles therefore are likely to have two or three differing bottle codes on them like this one.

N: Yet more meatiness, salty maltiness, gooey mineral, limes [fresh>cordial], a floral touch, blu-tac,..
T: Salty, dry smoke maltings and an age-bearing softness.
F: A long finish on shy mineral citrus, dry smoked barley, a touch of bacon-meatiness and creamy icing sugar.
C: Convinced it was Talisker after Nick called it, this Laphroaig is especially soft compared to modern fayre, and with almost no TCP. A super decent all-round session whisky in its day, now a price-inflated auction lot.Scores a B[+]

Iodine, phenolic smoke, reminiscent of smoked ham, medicinal, slightly alcoholic in the nose, vanilla, smoky nose with aromas in the mouth, very "pure" despite the fierce smoke, warming, nice sweetness remains with smoke and some oak spice,
