The 2nd in our recent Irish series, this 11yr old Single Malt has been drawn from a refill American oak ex-Bourbon barrel - moderate beading and a light texture from this active refill cask.
A mild nose feel with a slight prickle. Fruity and sweet to start with slightly burnt lemon meringue pie and a touch of honeycomb. Notes of borage and Madeira cake with almonds come through as the whisky breathes.
To taste, this is distinctly citrusy and spicy on the tongue and the tell-tale Irish oily notes are also in evidence.
With water it becomes smoother, less acidic and distinctly orangey - waxy orange rind, orange blossom and bags of milk chocolate orange with hints of ginger and chilli.
An aperitif-style whisky which is both complex and very easy to drink.
