The cask type has had us slightly perplexed. Normally, you would expect to see Mortlach matured in ex-Sherry casks, and this whisky shows many characteristics that would point to this, but the empty cask now sitting in our warehouse is a refill American oak ex-bourbon hogshead…
Great colour and good beading indicating good texture. A clean, crisp, rich nose with dried cranberries, raspberries and marmalade. Great texture in the mouth, slightly mouth-drying with subtle sweet, roasted aromas.
A creamy rich mouth feel like a sweet French breakfast – brioche, honey, coffee and marmalade.
With water it becomes very smooth, filled with sloes, pears, almonds and cherries soaked in coffee.
A digestif-style whisky.
