  1. lincolnimp scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A really nice whisky that would be around 92/3 points if the finish was better but still worth buying for sure.
Notes from a bottle just opened.
    • Nose
      91 91
Nice nose, multi-layered, sherry and peat mixing well together with hints of fruit cake and a splash of orange.
Slight coffee note, a little spice, just a faint pepper hint, finally some wax and varnish notes which add a nice complexity.
I get the impression, as good as this is that water will improve it, slightly closed I feel.
    • Taste
      92 92
Nice mouthfeel, orange, plum, quite thick, coats the palate, a wave of peat washes across the tongue and mixes really well with the sherry and it is a vibrant 2nd fill sherry like some older Longmorns.

The fruit angle grows mixes with a little fudge and a few meat notes like sliced beef.
    • Finish
      88 88
Decent medium and if this bottle at 46% has a weakness it is in the finish as it needs to be a bit longer. but overall a nice spicy fruity finish.

Lets see if water changes anything?

Yes it does, the nose has opened up more spice and the peat has subsided, golden syrup cake ahoy with a splash of ginger cake of the Tate & Lyle variety.
The palate is nice enough but only a few drops are needed as it starts to fall away
