Whisky Reviews for Glenkinchie 12-year-old

111 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 78.70 points

Lowland whiskies tend to be overlooked by many whisky drinkers. That's a shame! Being a rather light, soft and floral Single Malt, Glenkinchie 12 has a surprising complexity. The nose is mildly grainy and fruity with honey, nuts and caramel. It's a busy nose that needs a bit of time to open up. On the palate, the dram arrives full-bodied with ripe fruits, pepper and a malty spiciness. It turns slightly dry and there is an occasional spiritiness coming through. The finish is fresh and aromatic but rather short. An easily accessible malt with a remarkable character!

From a 2020 sample, has been a while since I tasted the Glenkinchie 12. A decent dram, but I wouldn't buy a second bottle (I enjoyed a full bottle back in 2013).
    • Nose
      79 79
Quite flowery with a touch of puff pastry. Has a clear sour edge with lemons and yogurt, accompanied by a slightly metallic note.
    • Taste
      80 80
Fresh and sour fruits like green apple and lemons. Nicely balanced with sweet notes like karamel, vanilla and a perfumed scent. The metallic note from the nose reappears after a while.
    • Finish
      77 77
Almost like a light white wine. Some apples, some lemons, and quite dry.

this batch is a crazy mix of great fruit with a great false note
    • Nose
at first a bitter slightly metallic false note, which softens with some time in the glass but never completely disappears. Oak soaked with furniture polish - bitter sweet something chemically. Warms: oranges, lemon, mint
    • Taste
sweet, prairie, oranges, lemon - quite fruity yummy fresh with mint - but there it is again - the metallic bitternote from the nose - the malt could be so great without this - otherwise it is round and very soft - the alcohol is well integrated
    • Finish
fruity, sweet, quite viscous, minty fresh with delicate oak - medium fresh

Pleasant, if not overly complex, dram. Suitable for me as an everyday dram.
    After dissolution:
Good that I have gotten the blindsample, unbiased, you can approach honestly to such a bottling.
    • Nose
      Blind sample.

Pretty versatile. Light fruits, peach and pear, honey, spice, subtle alcohol, some malt, vanilla
    • Taste
Delicate on the tongue, sweet, with vanilla and pear again
    • Finish
medium long, slightly warming, on the palate a bit bitterness is noticeable, but the fruit sweetness still lingers for a long time

  6. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Better and stronger, as one has as a prejudice in the head ("lax Lowlander", "girl whisky, just flowery, nothing else ...").
    • Nose
malty, sweet, caramel, after a while filigree flowery and fruity notes, apple, some lemon
    • Taste
short note of green apple, then malty sweetness, caramel, some spicy sharpness and constantly in the background a certain fruity bitterness, could be lime
    • Finish
medium long, dry and slightly bitter (cocoa, lime)

You can do it, but you don't have to. It's completely arbitrary.

    Blind tasting
    • Nose
      80 80
Standard color. Slightly cognac-like, light, light fruits, malt sugar, very slight smell of oil, herbs and honey. Pretty closed.
    • Taste
      80 80
Pleasant mouthfeel, sweet and gentle, malt, citrus fruits, some oak and fruit.
    • Finish
      78 78
      Short, gentle, a little oak

Little bit too light for my taste but definitely not a bad whisky
    • Nose
      80 80
Wood, light, honey, vanilla, caramel, hay, lemon, malt
    • Taste
      76 76
Sweet, sour, mint, tobacco, sometimes alcoholic
    • Finish
      81 81
White pepper, cardboard, floral, white chocolate, tobacco

  9. Saftkenner scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

A nice, pleasant summer whisky in the typical Lowland style with a good price-performance ratio.
If I could choose between this bottle and the 18-year-old Auchentoshan, I would actually rather go for this bottle.
    • Nose
A nice fruity-fresh nose. Ripe apples, pear quinces, fresh citrus notes, wine gum (sour apple), a hint of menthol, light vanilla, some pipe tobacco, raspberries, lemon cake.
    • Taste
Relatively full and oily for the low drinking strength. Slightly alcoholic.
A nice interplay between sweet and sour. Lemon cake, apple, quince, pear, malt, vanilla and a light oak spice.
    • Finish
Short to medium-length finish. What remains is the lemon cake, a little cassis and a light oak spice.

  10. jvanopstal scored this whisky 72 points Expert Junior

    Nice fruity and flowery whisky
    • Nose
      Flowery with lemon and honey
    • Taste
Quite sweet and fruity with citrus and a small amount of spices
    • Finish
Medium long and a bit spicy but also a little sweet
