Whisky Reviews for Wild Turkey 81 proof

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 76.55 points

  1. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Ordinary bourbon for 20 €, quite strong for only 40.5%, could contain a lot of rye from the wort.
    • Nose
honey sweet with cinnamon and a slight pungency, a hint of leather / tobacco, the bourbon-typical solvents note is more in the direction of slightly artificial fruitiness
    • Taste
Corn sweetness, honey, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger, slightly more sharpness than the nose suggests, orange peel, sweetish tobacco
    • Finish
long, bittersweet (orange marmalade with peel), very spicy-spicy

I recently had the opportunity to taste the 101 proof version, and apparently it is a unique phenomenon when it takes away the volume of alcohol for the good. Thank you for your thumbnail.
    • Nose
The aroma seemed to be closed at first, so I left the bourbon of the 50-ml plastic miniature that my donkey gave me about an hour and it was good for the thing, the fragrance opened up nicely. Orange marmalade, cloves, dried lemon peel, chocolate, exotic woodiness, vanilla, sweet spice. (84 b)
    • Taste
Honey-like, sweet, orange, chocolate, at the end with sweet spices and spicy woodiness. Smooth, without distractions. (84 b)

    • Nose
Quite sugary with strong hints of toffee. Mint aero is prominent with overtones of eucalyptus. Apple pie topped with cinnamon.
    • Taste
Initially a weak mouthfeel is the most obvious thing. There is some toffee sweetness mixed with star anise.

With water - spice and oak are both less influential.
    • Finish
A medium/long finish that contains a lot of wood with a vague vanilla note.

  4. Mr.Sandwich did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Lighter and more fruity, but also immature than his 8 year old - or his 101Proof - brother.
    • Nose
Eichig - fruity with vanilla, smoke from the barrel and rye.
    • Taste
Charcoal oak with fruit, vanilla, caramel and the sweetness of corn and Virginia tobacco.
    • Finish
Spicy spiciness from wood and rye combined with corn sweetness.

For it's price this is an amazing bourbon, great for drinking straight. One of those goes down easy bourbons that I get through quick. Really starting to like Wild Turkey, it's becoming one of my favourites.

This is one of the best standard bourbons I have ever tasted.
    • Nose
Light vanilla with marzipan and banana. A new glossed book and pear drop sweets. Really is light and refreshing.
    • Taste
Same as the nose, the taste is light and refreshing, and very smooth, it goes down really well straight. It has a lovely texture to it, slightly nutty and a taste of candy.
    • Finish
This has a nice long and creamy finish.
