  1. HKWhiskyExplorer scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Smooth and rich. There's a high rye content in the mash bill. Aged in heavily charred casks for an average of 5-8 years

In my pre-historical scoring method, it's an 8.9/10.
    • Nose
Vanilla fudge. A hint of spices.
    • Taste
Rich with caramel and a hint of honey.
    • Finish
Mid finish. Charred oak and spicy.

Aged in American virgin white oak barrels, charred at deepest no. 4, “alligator” level, for up to 6-8 years. Wide straight long fast primary and narrow slow secondary legs. Water smooths out the nose, waters down the palate, while bringing up herbal notes in it. High quality-price ratio.
    • Nose
Fruits: tropical: cocoa, and cherry. Grain: popcorn and spicy rye. Oakiness:
      American virgin oak.
      Earthiness: tobacco, leather.
Herbal: pine notes, fresh leaves, dill. Spicy: mint notes. Nuttiness: almond notes. Light sweet notes: vanilla, caramel. Backing spices: cinnamon. Light sweet smokiness notes from the charred oak. Thin: lacks intensity.
    • Taste
Backing spices and sweet on the arrival, develops stone fruits: cherry, then mint and oak. Salted caramel notes. Smoky notes on the retrohale: charred oak. Nuttiness: almond, cola. Woody: toasted and charred American oak, tannins. Herbal. Mouthcoating. Smooth. Long development. Full bodied, but not very rich.
    • Finish
Short to medium: mint, spice, and oak. Fruity: slight cherry drop notes. Dry.

A surprisingly solid bourbon. Easy to drink with a bit of complexity to let you play with it a bit. With a bit of time, the alcohol burn fades, the pancake and rye meld into this walnut fudge awesomeness, and the dram becomes that much easier to drink.
    • Nose
Sweet baking spices and brown sugar, vanilla, cream and cherries, grain-rich rising bread dough, a touch of dill and sweetly-smoked oak tannins.
    • Taste
Corn and oily-rich grain sweetness, a flash of rye and alcohol burn with a hint of new oak, honey drizzled buckwheat pancakes, confectioner's sugar
    • Finish
A long lingering vanilla cream with a touch of dark cherries, a soft fade to oak and soft orange zest

    Nose:-
Open up with waves of sweet honey and maple syrup, whirl around with
fragrant dusting powder, lemon and orange zest freshness. Coffee liqueur emerge with creamy and like tiramisu. A good
    after dinner dram.

Palate:- Feather light on palate with a thin
layer of oil from somewhere, tinge of spices and fresh oak spiciness,
typical style of bourbon. Restraint sweetness. Easy.

Finish:- Smooth. Short to medium finish but leave with toasted oak spiciness at the tail on palate for quite long.

    Chewing Tobacco

Wild Turkey, from Lawrenceburg in Kentucky, is undoubtedly a name you have heard before. For me it was – a long time ago – my first encounter with bourbon. I return with great pleasure, trying this 81 Proof.

Very sweet and spicy nose on plums, chocolate and maple syrup. A touch of leather. Some raisins. The crust of a freshly baked bread. But the whole is so very soft.

It is oily and honeysweet with a small prickle. Arrives quite candy-like. Phew! My teeth almost clatter out of my mouth from the sweetness. Raisins and chewing tobacco. Some parma violets. Oranges, the bitter ones. Soft on the spices. Think ginger and nutmeg. Caramel arrives in full force, as if this baby was not yet sweet enough…

The finish is surprisingly long on more of the same, with a bittersweet and very spicy end.

If you have a sweet tooth, you will certainly like this bourbon. Probably a very good mixer. Can you call this bang for your buck? With a price tag of only 20 EUR, I think that is warranted.

Lighter and more fruity, but also immature than his 8 year old - or his 101Proof - brother.
    • Nose
Eichig - fruity with vanilla, smoke from the barrel and rye.
    • Taste
Charcoal oak with fruit, vanilla, caramel and the sweetness of corn and Virginia tobacco.
    • Finish
Spicy spiciness from wood and rye combined with corn sweetness.

i had 2 drinks of this and it gave me a migraine, tried it again, same result...

blends well with old parr whiskey though, gave it more character... and the resulting blend was a much better drink than each individual

  15. drkrylov scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

A lower strength bourbon from Wild Turkey, bottled

at 81 proof (40.5% abv) and created by the associate distiller Eddie Russell,

the son of master distiller Jimmy Russell. This has a high rye content in the

mash bill and is aged in casks with a heavy char - the result of which is huge

flavour and complexity without the same heat as the 101 proof.
