6 users have left 6 reviews for this whisky. Average rating is 89.10 points.

  1. Ivynor scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

A rather austere whisky on the nose, powerful and not very complex, but very well done. Less thin than the Uigeadail however.
    • Nose
Very medicinal ... mercurochrome, antiseptic spray. A lot of soil and peat. A bit of "old wood" and pepper. Very little sweet, maybe a hint of fruit (banana, pear?). It is quite austere and brutal. A "primitive" ardbeg hardcore!
    • Taste
Greasy texture. Mouth very sweet, very sweet, in quite great contrast with the nose. Wood, tons of earth and peat is very well done, although not very complex. More creamy with water. Alcohol also a little better integrated.
    • Finish
Very long, on peat, wood and again these carts of earth.
Then come the ashes and pepper that remain several minutes.

  6. Gronqvist scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
First spicy, followed by orange and other exotic fruits and it continues to evolve ( lemon, grapefruit ), over time which is always a good sign. Sweet peat smoke, walnuts and wet wool, but also hints of grass, toasted bread, roasted nuts and spicy notes of pepper and ginger.
    • Taste
The taste is lush and rich and definitely more compelling than most standard Ardbegs. A sweetness in the form of exotic fruits such as peaches and passion fruit tastes through, in addition to a generous portion of peat and coal, but also dry and crisp, with peat and wine notes in a wonderful balance that develops over spices, pepper, coal smoke, more lemon, licorice, phenols, peach evoke leave, some cocoa and a touch of mint.
    • Finish
long with peat and peppers hanging long, well balanced with a return hint of citrus.

  7. granella2003 scored this whisky 98 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Intense aromas of ripe oranges, bitter marmalade, smoke, tar and fresh walnuts which are interrupted by subtle scents of seaweed, olives
    • Taste
Lemon, smoke, peat which overflow into flavors of apples, sugar, barley
    • Finish
A long, sweet aftertaste imbued with intense flavors of tar, coffee, chocolate and cherries with a hint of pepper
