I think it is a great Talisker which has aged well. Had in comparison to the Talisker 35 and that one was the clear winner. Nevertheless highly recommended to have a try.

Rather delicate. Takes some time to really get my interest is hinting at its brilliance rather than hitting you in the face.
    • Taste
      92 92
Fruity, malty with quite a punch. Little orange zest and pepper with some honey towards the end.
    • Finish
      91 91
Very long. Sticks around forever with a nicely fading sweetness, then becomes dry and little leathery

A hint of beeswax and seaweed with thick wood smoke, Bramley apples, marzipan and oily nuts. The palate is thick and full.a perfect Talisker. a dream. It could be my favorite dram until the last day .more of that

    • Nose
It starts off very gentle, fruity and even a bit floral. Dried apricot, honey, vanilla, fresh fig, vanilla cookie and cinnamon candy. Only a touch of peat in the background.
    • Taste
Lots of honey. Apricot, vanilla, gingerbread and herbs. Peaty and peppery notes underneath, but all very subtle.
    • Finish
Apricot, peat, honey, liquorice and gentle spices.

  14. Waykid scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

Really just a classic to remember. A-mazing.
    • Nose
It begins with fruits, citrus, mango, lemongrass. Then the smoky layer hits with chimney-plaster, cold-smoked salmon and seawater. These mix together added with cough-syrup and sweet weed.
    • Taste
Grain roasted in butter with apples, cherries, peaches. Some kind of granola maybe? Smoky mango, tar, old ropes, stones on a beach, chalk, salmiak. Delicious.
    • Finish
Long and really good with a smoky sweetness and tar-salmiak.

Another great Talisker. Only outdone by 12 year old Distillers Agency APE bottling for Italy IMHO.
    • Nose
      94 94
Pineapple, mango, smoke, anise, lemon tea, minerally
    • Taste

Salt, smoke, tropical fruits, lemon zest, camphor, pepper, oily
    • Finish
      95 95
Salt, light pepper, smoke, tropical fruits, toffee. Nice lingering finish

This is a typical quality OB Talisker, it has the classic, peaty, peppery & smoky profile that any fan of the distillery expects.

No need for water, a great dram.

  17. Thermidor scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

I can't help but love this. There's everything in it I could ask from a Talisker. It's maybe not a Brora 2006 or 2004, but it gets very close.
    • Nose
A lovely mix of salted liquorice from the pharmacist, greasiness, a solid peaty backbone with some fats, and tropical fruit. I can feel the turfy Talisker peat rounded by some oiliness. A bit of putty as well. The oak is very discreet. With water it becomes fruitier.
    • Taste
The body is ready to go neat, and it's absolutely huge: A mass of biting, turfy, oily and fatty peat, much louder than the nose would lead you to expect. A dash of water just makes it more perfect, making the body almost unbearably rich. Greasy, honeyed fruity goodness.
    • Finish
Looooong. Sticks to the tongue persistently, as if clinging on for dear life. Rage against the dying of the light, you little wonder. You're a magnificent postcard from whisky's good old days.

  18. Donwaldorf scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Wow, what a slap! Everything is perfectly perfected, whether it's the integration of alcohol, the light and precise peat, the well-controlled oakiness ... a complex and sweet Whisky at a time.
    • Nose
I was expecting to smell you see it here but this old traffic jam needs time to express itself, something that I let him easily do. First there is peat oil, peaty malt with salty notes. Some spices, including pepper mingle with the dance. There are also cooked fruits and even green melon. A beautiful complexity
    • Taste
Attack all finesse, powerful but not too much. Alcohol integrates perfectly with these peaty, salty and peppery notes (not too much!). The age is felt but not excessive with some woody notes and a slight bitterness, that is pleasant and not exaggerated.
    • Finish
Sweet and long on saline peat at first. After a few moments fresh mint notes appear to initial everything.

    An excellent Talisker
    • Nose
      Light smoked, lemon, iodized.
    • Taste
Light peat in the first place but the smoke is more present at the end of the mouth. Oily texture. An undeniable marine side with a slight salinity. Alcohol is perfectly integrated.
    • Finish
Peppered kick, spicy and return of the smoke. Beautiful length.

First review after opening the bottle.

Let's see how it develops now in the bottle.

On the first impression the 25yo (2007) seemed slightly more mature and elegant than this 30yo.

    Clear Talisker!

    Fantastic whisky.
    • Nose
Seabreeze, gentle peat, lemons. Mineral and sharp. With time, more smoky and lemony.
    • Taste
      Punchy, waxy. Lemon liquor, pepper.
    • Finish
      Long, lemony, briny.

  25. wbarchive_350097 scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

    That's how I like smoke.
He completely changed his profile on the tasting time.

    • Nose
Apple, pear, lemon, spicy, smoked, bacon, vanilla.
(with water) Smoke fades after some aeration.

    • Taste
Citrus, lemon, vanilla, pepper, a little smoke. Sweet and honeyed

    • Finish
      Medium, on pepper and peat.
After aeration, there is only the fruit

  26. Jeep51 scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

Huge (old) whisky. ! I do not know what is the degree alcoholic but what aromatic power. And this endless finale.
    • Nose
Oily, metallic, old malt, very melted, slightly marine / iodized. Charcoal, herbs from Provence also appear with aeration. It may take a little to get this nose, but it's great! Complex and old. With time, stewed fruits also arrive. top
    • Taste
Lively and powerful but still delicate. Quinine, sea water, iodine, salt, herbs of Provence still. The sea side is also present but it is not at all sticky as it can be sometimes in some old whiskys. A very delicate oak is evident in the middle of the mouth with pepper.
    • Finish
Very long. Fresh, minty, lots of ginger. Endless.

    Talisker
    30 yo (50.7%, OB, 2007, 2958 bottles)

    Last year’s edition was truly
excellent, very fresh and very clean
(91), here’s the brand new edition.
    Colour: straw. Nose: very different
    from the G&M, certainly peatier,
    purer, even cleaner, more ‘riesling’.
    Fab sharpness considering its age.
    It’s also much waxier, more
on purely fresh seaweed, coal smoke,
    apple peelings, fresh walnuts, almond
milk... Also hints of shoe polish,
wet stones, lemon zest. Gets more
mineral with time and smokier as well.
I remember having written than the
2006 version remembered me of Didier
    Dagueneau’s ultra-sharp Pouillys.
Well, this is the Silex! I love this,
no need to say. Mouth: starts a little
fruitier but mostly on lemons, oranges
and citrons together with these waxy
    and slightly resinous notes again.
The expected pepper is well here,
as well as green tea, small bitter
apples... Gets grassier and a little
drier, with also notes of fresh hazelnuts,
hints of olive oil... And then frankly
    medicinal, with quite some camphor,
    salt, peaty smokiness... Full bodied,
    almost pungent (well, not quite),
getting very, very salty after a moment.
It grows bigger and bigger, as if
you just wakened a giant. Finish:
very long, very salty, not too peppery,
    with bunches of crystallised citrus
fruits just like at the attack. Well,
I think I like this one even better
than the 2006 version, which was maybe
just a tad shier than the 2007. 92
    points.

This is an unusually elegant Talisker compared with other 30-year-olds that I have tasted from Diageo's special releases from Talisker distillery.. It is more sherried in my opinion, which for me gives it among other things a touch of boiled candy - something I never experienced with the 2009 and 2010 releases, which are more typical Talisker (more elemental, more punch and more ex-bourbon traits). This 2007 release is for me the best of the ones that I have sampled, but not by much. It already has increased much in price since its release, so now is the time to buy for all interested parties.

  30. Dede scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

A Talisker at the top of its form, at which age brought elegance and balance without removing its island power. Superb.
    • Nose
Which class ... Iodine of course, fine and delicate peat, then nice notes of fresh pineapple juice, green apple, lemon. And especially a rare elegance that betrays its age despite alert alertness. Aeration reveals more mineral and vegetal notes, but the balance is never broken.
    • Taste
It shows a beautiful power in the mouth, from the attack. Fine peat, lemon, mineral, vegetable, salt, and Talisker pepper that makes its appearance. Always this feeling of purity, a very clean alcohol, chiseled.
    • Finish
Long, frankly smoked, salty and peppery with a nice back of candied lemon.

A whisky of time needs! At first I was disappointed and only had charcoal and vanilla in my glass. Have the glass then a little disappointed and hopefully put away and then
    • Nose
At first very one-sided with an overlying charcoal and some vanilla. After a lot of waiting suddenly structure comes into the glass. Very complex and aromatic with lots of caramel and vanilla. Lemon drop. Maritime, clear and pure.
      Becoming more maritime with H2O
    • Taste
Charcoal and campfire smoke. Distinct Caramel Sauce paired with black pepper.
    • Finish
Very round with lots of aromatic smoke and pepper. Incredibly long with long-lasting caramel sweetness on the palate.

  32. Malt Hans scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

Fruity and smoky aroma, green apple,

pineapple, red currants, strawberries, floral honey, cloves, camphor and

fir branches. Vanilla sweet and peaty taste, mint, anise, pepper, ripe

orange, nutmeg, coffee, custard, walnuts and chocolate. Long, smoky,

    fruity, spicy and malty end.
