  1. lincolnimp scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

I believe this is one of only 2 peated version of Laddie, the other is also a Cadenhead dumpy distilled in January 59.
Bruichladdich stopped peating sometime in 1960.

As far as I am aware this is possibly the oldest Laddie (vintage wise) you can get but I am not sure so need to check that.

I preferred this neat but this is a real pleasure and if it had more power it would have been over 95 points but I feel anywhere from 92-94 overall is about right so a 93 from me.
    • Nose
      93 93
This has a nice peat fruit combo, quite a briny peat mixed in with white fruits and some furniture polish, it is definitely a coastal nose I am smelling here,
Green tea notes (had some recently in a Wagamama restaurant), gooseberry, candied pineapple, sawdust and a little tar.
This is slightly distant on the nose, I wonder if water will release the peat a little more?
    • Taste
      95 95
Now that is much more peaty than the nose suggested and it is a a creamy peat with a citrus edge and I have to say it has a great balance, not overpowering in any way, just right.
A load of stewed white fruits arrive, not unlike a fruit 60`s Bowmore but its better more defined if you like.
There is a little pastry in the mix and hints of fisherman’s friends cough pastilles but only hints nothing overpowering, kippers, slightly oily.
      Nothing out of place here.
    • Finish
      93 93
Decent length but a little underpowered at 46% remaining slightly sweet and hints of smoke and peat to the end.

      With water:-
Everything the same but there is a little cheese note not unlike what I get with some Ardbegs?
The water has made the liquid go cloudy and for the first time I have noticed some crystalline particles, not surprising with something of this age of the peaty variety.
The peat is checked and now it is really fruity, again on white fruits but then a wave of peat returns with a slightly creamy and spicy finish.
