0895-DALWHINNIE 15 yo "THE GENTLE SPIRIT" SINGLE MALT SCOTCH Whisky 43%
...it looked promising. It was supposed to be a dessert, but it turned out to be nothing. It's still quite pleasant on the nose, but the pepper wasn't spared in the mouth... maybe there weren't any "other spices"? I don't really like it on its own, but as an accompaniment to cheese or pâté... it's fine. It's a disposable bottle... although there will be some fans of this 15-ounce bottle.
    • Nose
...sweet and sugary, powdered candy. Green apples and pears. Very dessert-like. The alcohol content is three points above the required value. Neither too much nor too little. I check the empty one – and there it is: a sweetish cake with candied fruit, set aside to rise, a trace of heather honey. I return to the full one – a lemon cake with a light icing. A few flowers. Decent, like a budget after a paycheck – it's there at first, and then somehow disappears.
    • Taste
...sweet, a bit honeyed, with a manageable spiciness. The sweetness and honey fade quickly, while the spiciness and strange bitterness tug at a bald man like a haircut. Apple from the nose ("from the nose"—as it sounds), meaning apple and pear, are also present. The second attempt begins with spiciness, which seems sharper than the first. It warms, stings, and attacks with a bitterness that doesn't quite resonate with me. A tart finish. I have strange associations, as if this 15-small had something to do with Irish whisky.
      For a fifteen-year-old distillate, it's kind of... bland. It's... correct, that's all.
    • Finish
...medium, peppery, barrel-aged, tannic, and burning. A touch of tartness at the end, but the pepper lingers and even melds with the chili pepper.
