I used to love the Laddie 10 when it was still about, and these days I'm nursing a bottle of the 8 that I got from duty free a year or so back.

This shares a bunch of the same lemony genetic material, but it's less raw here and is delivered in a more gentle manner without dumbing it down.

It comes across as sweeter too, but also more rounded, with the pointy edges sanded. It’s still engaging, just less confrontational.

In the nose, this shows up as mellow cooked lemon and rich custard vanilla alongside baked but not heavy desserts and biscuits. It has some salt to it which keeps it from over-sweetness and a bit of unprocessed very neutral fabric that’s both dry and grassy.  I also get a late surprise blast of pink confectionery.

The palate is super easy drinking, carrying through the mellow lemon but less of the baked goods, initially replacing them with honey, eventually evolving into sticky cereal bars as measured pepper and ginger raise the temperature a little and the tiniest bit of bitterness plays out.

There’s more lemon in the tail, but still tightly constrained. I really enjoyed the downshifting of gears into an increasingly herbal and mineralic space where the oily, creamy taste and texture become much more noticeable without any of the butyric edge that the distillate can display..

Great stuff. There's a comfortable golden warmth to this edition that really hit the spot.
