A nice malt but nothing special, there are a lot of better Bowmore's out there. This was a gift off my brother for doing his garden.
    • Nose
Very little, just say make out the peat and a little bit of honey.
    • Taste
Mild peat and citrus. Tastes a lot better than it smells. It's a slow starter but it gets better as the glass empty's.
    • Finish
      Medium dry finish.

Tart and slightly smoky. Not special. does not hang.

  4. Kilo1 scored this whisky 80 points Expert Junior

For my money I was a lifesaver, but I feel that the alcohols are young, covered by a trail of light Ailovsky haze, but for a sophisticated company it’s just the conversation.

Nice peaty infusion, almost had the impression to drink a refreshing peaty tea. And it is not way more expensive than a cup of tea actually (bought for about 20€ in France). Not too complex, but has taste and is not boring, perfect for the price.

    Apple/lime/some I-don't-know-what's-in-it herbal infusion/pepper/soft cake-y peat

  6. Stanzeflasche scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Salty nose, light peat with hints of guano, limestone and wet grass. Thick humidity, medicinal touch, quite spicy vanilla, floral hints, white grapes. In the mouth, it is a little tart, we unearth a hint of pear and honey, a little taste of iron filings. Little spices, white pepper and herbs from Provence. The finish is sparkling, peppery without being too much, a little rough. It doesn't take long on the palate. Mirabelle plums and small yellow apples.

Maritime, salty, slightly peaty (relative), sweet, soft and yummy. Pleasant, but special, in a good way.
    • Nose
Smoky peaty, but very weak and very shy. Maybe the 40% owed. Nevertheless, the nose is quite nice, nice round with clearly peat.
    • Taste
Smoke, peat, some fruit, something "wet sock".
    • Finish
Smoke, peat, some fruit, some menthol.

Probably the best in the smell, the insignificant taste it squeezes down, but for the price it's not bad
    • Nose
Green apples combined with sweet gum, glue, iodine, peat and salt
    • Taste
The taste is slightly pale - oily, peat, iodine and a little salt
    • Finish
In reverberation mainly iodine and peat with a spicy finish

Nice whisky, though the sea breeze is not so refreshing and the fruits are not so juicy as in versions with age statement. 77/100

This is a nice Islay. Not wonderful, not distinctive in character like the real heavy Islay malts, but it's got the peat and the smoke. The fact that it's very cheap relative to most brands and can still deliver when you're craving that magical earthy, smoky goodness makes this a worthwhile whisky to always keep stocked in the liquor cabinet.

Nose: Peat, Cherry, old basement, salty wind, some caramel and vanilla in the background.

Initial taste: Some sweet peat, oak, salt water but also young spirit. Hint of sour cream.

Body: Medium. A little oily but also quite watery

Finish: Medium dries the mouth. Not much development in the taste.

Price: Quite cheap. Good price quality.

Presentation: The marketing guys made this the best bowmore according to the box.

Comments: My first ever Bowmore. And although I generally don't like peated whisky's, I think this one isn't so bad at all.
There must be some real good stuff around, as this is obviously a young whisky with quite some potential.
So for a first impression it's good.

This is a common Bowmore, not very expensive, not even the age is written on the bottle. But it is an excellent Islay, the only one with such oily sweetness I have tasted so far. Mild, because of 40% alc. A typical Bowmore, I can recommend it!
    • Nose
Subtle peat, more subtle smoke, at the same time a bit citrus and some sweet tropical fruits.
    • Taste
A lovely mixture of a bit burnt wood, pepper, peat and honey-like sweetness, all at the same time again. The so called honey sweetness reminds of dark honey.
    • Finish
The sweetest part of it, more fruits. The more you drink, the more fruity it becomes.

  23. Taita scored this whisky 81 points Expert Junior

According to the packaging, this is a selection of bourbon whisky barrels matured, undoubtedly relatively young. The taste is,caused by the oak, leather and asphalt influence, somewhat bitter. If you like this then you have a lot of complexity and taste for little money.
    • Nose
Wide pallet fragrance: Fruity, apple, pear, citrus, typical bowmore peat, honey, oak, tobacco and leather and some greenhouse smells,
    • Taste
Strong despite the 40% peat and oak, leather, pepper, asphalt
    • Finish
      Peat, leather, vanilla, honey, asphalt

Luckily, even light peat is effective. But it's a little young all that ... Still for the price, it's an excellent ratio q / p.
    • Nose
A nose rather easy and without much interest. Smoked and peated just right. A bit of cask. Vanilla. Cut flowers and a little hay.
    • Taste
A bit of bitterness that testifies to its youth, the mouth is both salty and slightly smoky. Not unpleasant at all. I find a little honey that sugar the palate. And some fruits: lemon and peach. Alcohol is a little artificial: very industrial.
    • Finish
The finale is short. We stay on the peat, light. And bitterness.

A whisky at the height of its price. Very interesting notes of iodine with a little fruit / peat in the background. Unfortunately, is still too immature, too raw. The bitter notes of plants / flowers are not to my taste. A good whisky "relaxing" despite everything, to drink as an aperitif and dry!
    • Nose
Rather immature, the alcohol comes out a lot. Marin, floral, bitter (roots?) But also a little fruity.
    • Taste
A little marine / iodine (pepper / salt), peaty notes, always bitter and immature, "sweet". Similar to a bit bitter tea, not too much body despite the interesting profile. The slightest drop of water destroys it completely. Drink dry.
    • Finish
      Rather short, marine / iodine.

  31. BeatF scored this whisky 82 points Photo Moderator

light and pleasant, without special depth. A great buddy in France handed me a bottle rest for tasting and well-deserved enjoyment.
    • Nose
peaty, maritime, but at the same time floral perfumed and strongly smelling of honey: interesting two-dimensionality. Also some nettle powder?
    • Taste
Ash, peat, but also light honey background.
    • Finish
relatively short and dry finish of the aforementioned ingredients. Depending on the drinking technique, the "touch of honey" (bottle back side) becomes a whole gush.

Young Islay whisky suitable for an aperitif.
    • Nose

    • Taste

    • Finish
Short with a bit of bitterness.

  34. D3US scored this whisky 76 points Expert Senior

To me the 12 year old is a more impressive dram, but nonetheless this will keep you warm on a cold winter night.
    • Nose
Saltier than most Bowmore's, but typical in its subtle peat smoke sweetness. Malty and some nice soft fruits, but all in all not one to knock your socks off.
    • Taste
I get that salty tang again, like a windy day by the beach. Cough drops and a coal fire in the background. Citrus fruits perhaps. Malty vanilla sweetness.
    • Finish
Medium in length and the salty breeze dies out. The gentle smoke and lingering sweetness remain to the end.

  35. pilgrim77 scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Young and peaty on the nose, with sweeter aspects drawn out by a couple of drops of water. Nothing of particular note on the palate, but a nice long and smoky finish. A straightforward islay dram.

    • Taste

  46. Feusi scored this whisky 76 points Connoisseur

Bowmore light. A bit peaty, a bit of smoke, a bit of sweet malt, but even only a bit of everything. A bottle with less character, an easy going, but well ok for the price, but please don`t expect to much of it.

  47. Lafroy scored this whisky 69 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Completely immature with strong spirit notes, some artificial sweetness, freshness, hints of dried fruits, but really not that tempting.
    • Taste
A mix of phenols, hints of peat, oak and some dryness. However, the spirit is much too heavy, a little bit too industrial, it tastes no better than some blended whiskies.
    • Finish
Rather short, which is good in this case and the flavors are uninteresting. Some sweet smoke is the only good thing that happens here.
