The mouthfeel is terrific, oily and creamy. Definitely not Islay or Icelandic peat, a wonderful note in its own right.
    • Nose
Campfire smoke, iodine, musty and maritime notes, tropical fruits, vanilla and malt.
    • Taste
Salty caramel, honey, iodine, campfire smoke, unripe peach and sea breeze.
    • Finish
Medium to long with sea salt and the smoke of a smoldering campfire.

Sharp seaweed, sweet sooty peat, farmy peat (manure included), sweet malt, subtle light fruits.
    • Taste
      85 85
Lots of honey this time. Seaweed and sweet soot are still here, but the farmy peat is further into the background. Mocha.
    • Finish
      84 84
Mocha, minor seaweed, soot, honey, farmy peat but still not as much as on the nose. Subtle white fruits.

What a beautiful whisky. Very typically farmy Springbank, and even though it's "peated", I have the feeling the current batch of the Springbank 10 (from a couple of years ago) I have open is more peated than this one. It's amazing how balanced it is, everything (including the peat) is nicely interwoven with each other and also complements each other very nicely. I love the sweetness you get in the development. I have no idea how old it is, neither do I really care because it doesn't taste spirity, young or aggressive. If anything I would describe it as the mildest peated whisky I've ever had. And I say that in a very positive way as some of them can really whallop you sometimes. There's a time and a place for all of them though. The finish could be a tad longer but honestly, I don't care.

From "J & A. Mitchell”, also owner and operator of the Springbank Distillery, comes the Longrow Whisky. Longrow was once one of the numerous distilleries in Campbeltown, which, however, had to close in 1896. The brand was revived by its neighbor Springbank in 1973. The "Longrow" is characterized by its double distillation and its comparatively high phenol content of around 50 ppm, which comes from drying the mashed barley over peat fires for 27 hours. Storage took place in ex-Bourbon casks. The very first Longrow Peated was released in 1980 and has since become a classic within the Longrow portfolio.
