Here comes another peated Single Malt that isn't from Islay: Longrow Peated (NAS) from Springbank distillery. The aroma starts out promising with intense honey-vanilla sweetness, vegetal peat smoke and unmistakably coastal/briny notes. On the palate, the mouth-warming, dry and utterly spirit-driven arrival is followed by bitter lemons, white pepper and salty peatiness. Its youthfulness shows in the earthy, mineral but surprisingly short finish that is not very substantial. To sum up, it's a fresh and appealing malt which doesn’t have the 'oomph' of Islay.

Nose is delicious - when the Muff is gone: smile: on the palate good quality - not necessarily my style - but still delicious - complex, full-bodied, high quality.
    • Nose
      Blindtasting:
dirty, cowshed, apple juice, banana, beautiful fruity citrus note, sugar cake with caramelized sugar, cinnamon and clove, some wax, fresh wood, mint, herbal tea, slightly salty, slightly mineral, lilac - linden blossom - sweet smell, delicate smoke
    • Taste
slightly sharp start, bit something - bittersweet spicy with lots of lemon and mint - in the background while chewing then sweet and beautiful wood with resin and pepper. Reminds me of pharynx cough rubber bear in citrus / apple with a clear hint of menthol
    • Finish
Medium long - a lot of spice from the wood, tree juice, tannins as if you were chewing bark

A very good peated Campbeltown malt with an engaging flavor profile that suits me perfecly.
    • Nose
Smoked fresh fruit, buttery soot, lemony wax and a medicinal note that hints towards bandages.
    • Taste
Buttery toast, salt, peppery lemon, chalky and some blueberries.
    • Finish
Mellow peat, berries, waxy and salty and a remaining taste of soft lemon rind.

A nice Campbeltown whisky with a slight smokiness, which I would have wished something stronger. Nice aromas on the nose, still solid taste. For a NAS bottling exciting, denoch rather entry into the Longrow range. In direct comparison, the less peated brother Springbank is 10 years much more intense and leaves more impression. All in all, a very nice malt that offers something different than sherry and sweetness.
    • Nose
For the name "Peated" in the name only slightly smoky. In addition, a lot of bright citrus fruits, a little acid to match. Delicate with fine flavors of cream cheese or brie. Something hides a touch of spice, a little caramel. Biscuit or wholemeal flakes. Floral accents. Despite NAS, no youth to feel. Overall, very fresh, light and not very smoky.
    • Taste
Direct pounding on the tongue, a bit of sharpness and pepperiness. Again citrus and caramel. Comes very straight in the mouth and does not spread so full-bodied. The smoke is fine in the background. Salinity shows up. A trace of oak.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long, the smoke disappears almost entirely. Again a delicate note of cheese. Again briefly mineral. Rather mild finish.
