Am positively surprised, in my opinion along with the Benrinnes and Dailuaine the best in the series.
    • Nose
Citrus fruits and juicy oranges, plum jam, herbs and spices, tobacco leaves, hints of grape-nut-chocolate.
    • Taste
Fresh spices, syrupy fruit notes, plum jam again, pepper, forest honey, oily and soft mouthfeel.
    • Finish
Long and warming, dark chocolate, slightly dry fruit and some oak.

I think it was a straight forward, strong and easy-drinking whisky with substance. Juicy and sweet with both caramel tones and somewhat darker sweetness, like dark chocolate.

  5. MarcinCh scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Darker color. Slightly rusty with reddish reflections. Light oiliness.

Enjoyable. Feel the influence of Sherry. Lots of red berries. Berries. Honey. Vanilla. A pinch of spices. Strawberry jam. On the second nose even more vanilla. After some time comes the milk chocolate.
    • Taste

A bit of smoke. Bitterness. Cocoa. Oak barrel. A pinch of spices. Maybe some black coffee.
    • Finish
      81 81
Black coffee. Cocoa. Oak barrel. Bitterness. Dessert chocolate. Maybe a little smoke. Medium length finish.

Complex. The sherry influence was clear, with dry fruits and caramel. But hard to differentiate further. Progressed to tobacco-like woodiness on the nose. Ended with pleasure indeed.

It's okay, but I don't feel like I have a special personality, but it's pretty heavy, so it's okay

Solid dram ... after opening and 6 months in cellar..
fruity vanilla caramel from the barrel and some citrus from the spirit. Well balanced, dare I say "smooth" good quality classic bourbon matured scotch that doesn't break the bank.

    It's going ok
    • Nose
cooling, spiciness that overlays almost everything, fruity, with a slight banana in the background
    • Taste
velvety, hot / peppery, spiciness, wood, some bitterness
    • Finish
      long and warming, dry, bitterness

As in the aroma with chocolate and caramel.
    • Finish

    nose:
oaky, waxy, some cooked fruit and yeast, moldy
fine herbs then cooked and candied fruit on a sherry note, a little caramel, rosemary honey and very sweet coffee
return of fruit on the delicate candied strawberry
    mouth:
    pleasant!
soft, sweet, malty, candied fruits on cooked cherries, black grape juice, strawberries still in jam, the sweet side emerges with the fruits, it's really sweet, the wood seems to be impregnated and gives more character to this dram, caramel and sweet almond in return
    final:
woody, sherry and malty, remarkable simplicity despite just 43 °, peppery spices manage to give more consistency and give a surprising finish

[September, 2021] Out of curiosity I do a sampling of all new Diageo "Flora & Fauna" series releases. The first eight drams (Auchroisk, Teaninich, Mannochmore, Glen Spey, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Linkwood, Strathmill) were all sub-standard and not worth the money (according to my taste buds only) so I wonder if I will find any dram which is of an adequate quality this year...

...and this Blair Athol is drinkable but not really enjoyable with a limited profile of exhausted casks (both bourbon and sherry). It is better than most other "Flora & Fauna" releases so far but still I call this a sub-standard quality (in my honest opinion).
    • Nose
      83 83
The colour is old gold and the nose offers some aromas, hooray! Still this is not impressive or interesting, but there is a nose at least. Some distant whiffs remind me of (leached) sherry casks and there are hints of honeys and spices. Not enjoyable, though.
    • Taste
      86 86
The taste is a little punchy (alcoholic) with sweet (sugars, honeys) and sour-winey flavours. The wood adds some bitter tannins but no spices which indicates exhausted casks again. Because of the winey flavours this taste is okay to drink but it is miles away from a good sherry maturation. It seems as if Diageo disposes its sub-standard casks in the "Flora & Fauna" series...
    • Finish
      84 84
The initial mouthfeel is limited with some warming and slightly coating moments, that is it. The finish is short and adds no new impressions, like all the other releases so far. Water just flattens everything without releasing new impressions.

Not overly complex, but very well balanced.
    Grapes, oak, biscuits, caramel, peach.
Reminds me of a Brackla 16.
I'am struggling which one I like best.
But I can buy 2 of these for 1 Brackla 16....
    Good value for money!

Very good and surprisingly balanced malt whisky.
Nose: malt, berries, honey, plum, soft ripe sherry
Palate: malt, sherry, honey, berries and dark sugars
Very balaced in taste, a spoonful of water opens and reveals the flavours. A new friend of mine.
