Good, but too expensive despite the 1l bottle. You have to spend almost € 70 for this NAS.
    • Nose
Dark fruits, musty, salty and sweet
    • Taste
The PX barrels give the whisky a very nice sweetness, followed by tingling spiciness. Somewhat earthy on the palate (peat)
    • Finish
Here the earthy taste comes to the fore, dry, medium-long

Islay, the epitome of peat-smoky whiskys, is represented by one of the flagship smoky whisky distilleries: Laphroaig. The PX Cask comes in a liter bottle and is actually from travel retail. There is no age specification, but E150a.
    • Nose
The smoke here is not as dirty and phenolic as Laphroaig can sometimes be. This is certainly due to the fact that it is tamed here by the very clearly sweet sherry aromas. As far as you can tame Laphroaig smoke. Sherry and strong smoke, cherry syrup - the aroma is clear and brute.
    • Taste
The PX sherry is also dominant in taste and fights for dominance with the smoke. In the end the sherry smoke wins... The base flavor is sweet with thickened fruit syrup, medicinal smoke and some cough syrup with thyme.
    • Finish
Of course, the mouth is covered with the smoke, which lasts for a long time and the sweet sherry notes also linger. Add some oak. That can make you happy.

This whisky is not filigree. PX Sherry and smoke - you get exactly what you expect. Anyone who likes the Laphroaig smoke and is looking for a tasty version will love the PX Cask. The new 10 year old with a sherry finish is better, offers more complexity and the nicer aroma. That doesn't detract from the fun of the PX Cask, which has a pretty good PLV in a liter bottle for €60.

The Laphroaig rightly won Peated Regions at the Double Blind Whisky Tasting. I had it at number two and the Ailsa Bay at number one. But that was a misplacement, although both are a bit too smooth and sweet. If the Ledaig didn't have the wretched brimstone, he should have won...

In May 2013, Laphroaig gave its bottlings a new look: since then, the packaging and label have appeared in a new, modern design. This is the new edition of the PX, the special variant of a triple wood whisky that has been sold exclusively in travel retail since 2012. First stored for several years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky then spent several months in quarter casks before finally maturing in ex-Pedro Ximenez casks.
