In my quest to find an Ardbeg that I really like I am trying this for the first time. Not really sure what batch it is.

On the nose I get peat, sweaty socks and something cheesy, I got the same with the 24 year 1977, its not the peat that is the issue.

With time it does improve in the glass and gets a little sweeter.

With water, I just get peat and nothing else really. I find it one dimensional and boring profile wise.

The search goes on, maybe Alligator next. I am leaning that a really heavily sherried ardbeg might be the way forward?

For me, the Uigeadail needs a couple of waterdroplets. It is only then it opens up fully. Without water, it is too difficult to feel anything besides ethanol.

    • Nose
Beautiful smoke - nice and mild; sweetness; cured ham (reminds me of Lagavulin 16yo); classic beef jerky.
(water) - still very meaty nose.
    • Taste
a bit of a shocker as the nose does not prepare for the flavour. a bit prickly (the ABV speaking); peat, touch of salt. there is much more in there but hard to pin down. complex nose nonetheless.
(water) - it took some water to tame it. once the % is not biting it becomes just so delicious.
    • Finish
      everlasting. amazing.
with water and a lot of time - i get some "root beer"
