The whisky surprised me twice. The first time in its aroma, which was wonderfully fruity, very ripe, even heavy with a menthol coating, and I like such aromas. Unfortunately, while the taste was still acceptable, I did not like its finish. Too bitter and peppery compared to ripe fruit
In my opinion, it is not worth the money that sellers expect.

heavy, fruity, raisins, blueberries, cherry syrup, a bit of moss and undergrowth, the last phase is a delicate menthol
    • Taste
      87 87
semi-sweet, wine, raisins, vanilla, dark chocolate, a bit of pepper, then pharmacy notes
    • Finish
      83 83
long, winey, quite sweet, ripe cherries, chili, warming end with pepper, bitterness and aftertaste of forest berries

Delicious intensive bottling, as usual with Kavalan, very barrel-heavy. I have hidden the price here, because that would be a joke in terms of PGV. This bottling is now no better than a soloist sherry, which is just over 100 euros.

This one needs time also it is pretty complex. New flavours come along pretty often. I'd recommend to make up your own mind if you can.

Nose: Dark chocolate, wood, nuts. The alcohol does give it a bit of a menthol note. After a while it turns sweet.
Taste: dark red fruits, dark chocolate and a bit spicy leathery . Aaaand at the end here's the wood it hits heavy.
Finish: Wood beneath it some fruits and a tad of sulphur

It took a little while to get in, but then it's really good and without any compromises. It's best to always pour a big dram ;-)
    • Nose
hmm, initially quite inaccessible, but air and a little getting used to the barrel strength help quite quickly, sour cherries, a touch of sulfur (I like the shape and intensity very much), it is not as brutal in terms of barrel load as most soloists that I tried before, it becomes sweeter, a little caramel is added, dark chocolate, and the sour sulfur flashes again and again, over time a little iodine is added, slightly nutty, after the first sip also some raspberry and tobacco, Air helps him a lot in the nose, and now there is also a clear gush of chocolate with mint, something of a whisky praline
    • Taste
Oily, full-bodied, roasted aromas, some sulfur, cherry, the barrel strikes well here, light acidity, more dry than sweet, Hanutawaffel, with the second sip I have the chocolate in my mouth, even more intense, dark, clearly espresso, the second Schluck goes a step further, now it is really good, slightly dirty, with a subtle oak in the background
    • Finish
The roasted aromas dominate here, the mouth becomes dry, hazelnut, slightly tart fruit is still on top of everything, creamy, very pleasant

  7. Lu Cifer scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
      90 90
aromatic nose with notes of plums (plum compote), berries, toasted oak, spicy fruitiness, winter spices. Looks elegant and appealing. Lightly tickles the nose. + H2O: more open and aromatic, slightly beguiling with aromas of ripe fruit.
    • Taste
      88 88
warm with onset, fruity-spicy, sweet-tart-sweet, oak, spices, a touch of barrel and dark chocolate. + H2O: Spicy and slightly scented, here too fruity and spicy, delicate oak, chocolate notes.
    • Finish
      87 87
first a little spicy, oak / wood notes then becoming sweet, fine wine fruitiness, hint of honey.
+ H2O: a bit tart with oak / wood notes, trace of chocolate, at the end slightly sweet and a touch of malty.
