  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

The label says it's Blackadder, but it might as well be a Rare Malt. The style is very austere, on worn cask and pure distillate notes, which I absolutely adore. If that's not your style of whisky, perhaps this is not a whisky for you, but if it is, put the cask number in your notebook, because what you get is this oily distillate of pure barley notes combined with dry old oak that barely has any sherry left to give, and the end result is an amazing dram with Zen-like oneness.
    • Nose
Age-softened straight oak, slight waxiness, some leafy green notes, oiliness, faint chlorine/honey water mix and just a tiny wisp of leather like an old boot from a few meters away. With water, some more of that soggy old oak, cold butter, and a wisp of charred wood, more like from a charred cask than the peat-based char of other Islay distilleries.
    • Taste
An oily, thick body with lots of pure barley notes. This is indeed very much like the usual Rare Malts style. Some bright fruit like unripe pears or cantaloupes come to mind. Lots of age-rounded naked oak, salinity, and some prickly peppery notes on the tongue., with a side of honey melon. Water brings some faint traces of sweetness and wine so I think this was a rather worn sherry cask. The style is coastal, and could easily be a Bunnahabhain or an Old Pulteney, or some less known Spey.
    • Finish
Wax, gentle fruitiness, and furniture wood.
