    A decent, powerful Cask Strength that was on sale until the end of 2016;
    • Nose
      fresh grass, malt, smoke, citrus fruits (lemons, pears);
    • Taste
      diluted: aromatic, spicy onset, clear citrus aromas (melissa, grapefruit), sweetness, peppery spiciness;
    • Finish
      medium long, fresh, smoky, herbs and spices sound like!

  2. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

    Intense fruity, smoky, peaty. Like the normal one, only more of everything and better. Nice.

    On the nose, moderate peat, salt and malt. A little coffee that turns into chocolate afterwards. Very cool. In the mouth, big attack, big presence. Spices, salt, it lacks a bit of gluttony, all the same. Imposing final, salty. Later, a bitterness supported. With water, it changes quite drastically, becoming warm and with a certain softness. The mouth is more complete, with the appearance of some fruits that still largely dominates the salt. The empty glass is full of salt and coffee. Enthusiasm 3/5

    The color - if you want to talk about color at all - is a very pale honey gold.
    This is a malt with a very special smokiness that I have only encountered at a distillery so far. Although this smoke is not quite the mainstream, I like it quite well. Especially complex is not this drop.
    I'm typing on the NAS or the 12 year old Connemara. (83/100)
    • Nose
      BLIND TASTING:
      The nose is greeted by a distinct but very pleasant chimney smoke, paired with grassy and slightly ethereal tones. After a short time, the intensity of the smoke recedes and floral notes and pear take on the aromas. The alcohol has a cooling nose, but not stinging. (max 43%?).
    • Taste
      The palate is dominated by a sweet smoky note that is again in harmony with grass and pear. I can also make out a slightly musty component. In the second sip then add honey and vanilla.
    • Finish
      The aftertaste is medium long and tends to be dry.

    At first I thought of a possible dilution with water, but I discarded that after the first sip, because I found the whole character just right. The smoky sweetness tastes an hour later.
    • Nose
      Soft and sweet, nut chocolate mixes with floral notes and a decent load of smoke. The 57.9% hold back pleasantly.
    • Taste
      A nice, full start with a light pepperiness. Here, the alcohol is now more noticeable than in the nose, but far from the fact that I would estimate him to almost 58%. The sweetness is repeated, vanilla and chocolate mix with smoke and spices.
    • Finish
      Long! Warm, he runs down his throat and leaves a seemingly eternal sweet-smoky impression.

    You can compare this one with a few good Islay-whiskies, lots of peat-smoke and a hugh fire burning in your mouth! To bad you don´t see this one to much nowadays... for a few years ago widely available, but not anymore.

    • Nose
      Sweetish light smoke. Fruitiness (pineapple, pear, green apples, mirabelle plums, citrus), flowery, freshly cut hay, vanilla. Everything is permeated with alcohol, because the cask strength is clearly noticeable.
    • Taste
      Not as strong as it felt in the nose. In the mouth first hardly noticeable. Then comes a slight sweetness and spiciness in the presence of light smoke. A touch of brine, vanilla
    • Finish
      But a bit woody finish, but which is relatively short therefore. Something bitter and rough.

    For sure not that complex but a very well made, exciting and refreshing irish whiskey. Recommended!
    • Nose
      Light peat smoke. Fresh citrus fruits and pears. Some lime peel. Kinda herbal fresh. Lemon balm and cooling menthol. In the back a touch of sweetness and maybe even some salt and pepper.
    • Taste
      Smooth start. Again lots of herbs and citrus aromas in the focus. Appears a little young now. However quite some fresh white oak flavors as you typically have  with bourbon. Very little peat smoke.
    • Finish
      Malty, grassy finish. Very delicate.

    Sweet nose, plum and wood, made green. Mouth a bit bitter well below normal Connemara! The middle brings a wave of burnt rubber. Final short and bitter. But where is the peat? Oxidation problem? Rear-olfaction stable.

  10. irrerelevant scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    mild, lots of cereal and smoke, lemon, a bit young, fresh, very "cold", spicy grain, dark bread, caraway fennel anise tea, Jagermeister ... I do not know what to think of it, certainly not bad
