A great Kilchoman. To get such a great fruitiness from a simple bourbon barrel in already 12 years, is the hammer.
    • Nose
      92 92
Sweet and aromatic smoke, typical Kilchoman, vanilla, mineral, liquorice, very fresh orange peel, light, light grapes, sweets
    • Taste
      90 90
Very sweet, smoky, again a bit mineral, again some orange peel, sourish, oak, no dryness, but very slightly bitter, good heat in the mouth
    • Finish
      90 90
Sweet and very pleasant bitterness, beautiful spicy notes of licorice, the smoke papel mineral on the palate, nice warming and long finish

    • Nose
This is how a bourbon-ripened malt of the Islay should smell: Mighty, ashen smoke (extinguished campfire on the beach) mixes with a fine scent of vanilla pods and honey. Immediately thereafter, delicate hints of light fruits (lemons, tangerines) and fine herbal aromas attract attention. Maritime notes (salt, pebbles), a slight nuttiness and nuances of oak wood follow. The high-potency alcohol (53.8%) is well integrated, only a minimal "cooling" is perceptible in the nose in the first few minutes. The Kilchoman is not overwhelmingly complex, but very elegant, clear and balanced.
    • Taste
Unbelievable how smooth-buttery the malt spreads in the mouth. Such a considerable viscosity I know in part only from Springbank and Port Charlotte. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and allows a powerful aroma transport. I renounce the addition of water. As soon as the initially dense ash notes of the extinct campfire evaporate, the noticeably vanilla citrus notes in the front of the mouth intensify. Follow with lemons, oranges, honey and a touch of malt. Fine herbal notes, hints of oak and maritime notes complete the aromatic conglomerate. A harmonious symbiosis of strong smoke, sweet-fruity and spicy notes. Dangerously tasty!
    • Finish
Long, strong smoky and sweet and spicy. Intense ash notes carry the warming and harmonious finish. The sweet fruit notes rear up, in constant accompaniment with herbs and subtle oak wood notes. Maritime notes such as salt and lime make for a perfect finish. A very slight dryness remains on the palate.

Blind tasting Advent calendar Brühler Whisky house no. 4

Golden in the glass, a little restless.

In the nose nice clear smoke - but not too strong. Very aromatic. Cool campfire, slightly phenolic. First association a beautiful Bourbon-ripened Bowmore?
After a few minutes significantly less smoke in the nose. Bright fruit, great sweetness. Clearly pineapple, vanilla cream. In addition, sea breeze.

The palate reflects the nose again: first fruity sweet. Pineapple again, vanilla, creamy mouthfeel. Then suddenly the smoke becomes more present and stronger and the Malt ignites the afterburner, which flows into a peppery, sharp finish.

    A fantastic malt!

One of my highlight drams in 2018.
The combination of salt and white chocolate is just awesome.
    • Nose
A lot of cold ashes. Wonderfully maritime with a lot of salt, algae and flotsam. And then it suddenly becomes really sweet with white chocolate. After the first sip, it gets spicier with some leather.
    • Taste
Creamy texture. Powerful start but pleasantly soft. First a lot of smoke with a nice salt note. Then it gets sweet again, but this time more milk chocolate. And then a candied apple that briefly reminds me of the Christmas market.
    • Finish
      Medium length. Smoke. leather

Medium long, warming, honey, with ginger a bit of pepper and smoke
